Great card. I mean sure, it's not the kind of one-drop that will be impressive at the early phase (where one-drops usually shine), but is instead more powerful in the mid-lategame.
And that's nothing to laugh at in my book.

I kind of get where they're going with the flavor text but I don't think it is telling the story of this particular soldier in any way whatsoever.

It's not sexy, but it will be a workhorse. Believe me.

Overhyped, but then again, maybe not. Time will tell. I'll stick with Champion of the Parish, though.

Should have been a 2/1. I still like it though, just not as much.

Hey, Gideon Jura doesn't have to take that crap! Not after everything he's been through. He was punching god-monsters three sets before you even existed, Aurelia...

Gideon Jura to Aurelia: "*** please I killed Emrakul bear handed and you treat me like THIS??!"

Simple, efficient workhorse. Hope I get a few of these in my pre-release box.

Not bad, but the battlion buff requires two other creatures to attack which is a big conditional. Unless you have tons of Boros weenies or a way to protect your battlion this card doesn't shine.

Core member of the turn 3 win standard play.

T1: Boros Elite/Champion of the Parish
T2: Burning-Tree Emissary; Lightning Mauler with the two floating. Soulbond the two, swing for 7.
T3: Swing with team, Rally the Peasants for 13.
Game two?

@Doaj: I like that play, but seems kind of tricky to have white turn 1 and suddenly have 2 red/green the second. Possible, but aggressive decks like that usually can't risk the mana base. I wouldn't mind waiting 1 more turn and playing Daring Skyjek and Skyknight Legionnaire before Rally the Peasants.

Nice to see Taylor Swift made it into the art of a Magic card.

Great card for a 4-turn win with Deviant Glee or Predator's Gambit.

T1: Plains, Boros Elite
T2: Swamp, Boros Elite, Glee/Gambit on first Boros Elite, swing for 3
T3: Boros Elite, Glee/Gambit on second Boros Elite, swing for 6
T4: Glee/Gambit on third Boros Elite, swing for 15

was uncertain about this card. Played it a few times and loved it. Stoked I picked up a Japanese foil of her too!

so good in any white weenie deck.

This card pretty much screams "white weenie". By itself, the 1/1 is as vanilla as you can get, but the battalion bonus is basically a freebie for weenie decks and with a Spear of Heliod out you suddenly have 4/4 attackers that costed 1 . Combine with Calvary Pegasus to make things better.
