A very welcome reprint!
Sadly, the art doesn't quite cut it...

I actually prefer this art to the old.

You know how you can tell it has flying? Not by the art that's for sure.

Really, Wizards, I appreciate your attempt to woo me with pretty women, but the old art showed the actual steed flying through the city, not a person on an unspecified mount with a generic background.

4/5 because the actual mechanics are sweet.

Extreme art reprint failure.

I can't believe how much lower this is rated just for the art XD
Fact is, this is going to be one of the key common battalion enablers in draft, coming down turn three, attacking immediately and pretty heedlessly to with flying. 4.5/5

At least they didn't try to restore a fresco.

The art alone is fine I guess, however it does not belong on this card. Its only made worse by the fact that this is one of the better Boros commons so this is going to see tons of limited play.

A turn three hasty creature is exactly what Boros needs, as turn three is the first turn to activate Battalion. You can dish out 8 damage (5 being evasive) when you precede this with a Boros Elite and a Daring Skyjek.

Good reprint tho.

Skyknight legionnaire is my favorite card. As in, the favorite. Always #1 on my list, has always been #1 on my list.

I love flying, love haste, and when put on a 2/2 body for 3 mana, it's just a great card. Like a shock that keeps kicking.

I have a single casual deck that I've been building for the better part of a decade, and one of the few cards I run multiples of is Skyknight. In many ways, you could say the entire deck is built around that card, and it has always been a cornerstone of its foundation. Even when they printed Chandra's phoenix, a 2/2 with flying and haste with a powerful extra ability, I found that Skyknights still performed better in my deck.

But, as the years have gone by, and my friend's decks have grown in strength to the point where I struggle just to remain a contender, I was looking towards the new Ravnica to provide my R/W deck was a much needed power boost.

If they were to print a strictly better Skyknight, even just something like a 2/3 Flying Haste for 1RW as an uncommon, and I were to switch out my Skyknights for them, it would be a rather significant power boost, and I would likely switch out all but one copy (for sentimental purposes) for that new card.

With Skyknight being reprinted, I'm hit with some pretty mixed feelings. Yes, it's my favorite card, and I like the new art, but I feel a little ashamed in that I'm disappointed they did not print a stronger card for Boros.

Perhaps it's a sign that I should remain faithful to my favorite, and that even in a world where cards quickly become outdated and obsolete, a 2/2 flyer with haste for 3 mana is still good enough to contend with modern decks.

Art is just weird and awkward. Card is good; quick and efficient, just like the Boros. Probably help you gather a third turn battalion as well.

A good card ruined by absolutely horrible art. I have no idea why this was ever okayed (probably by the same people who okayed Merfolk of the Depths), but trying to defend fantasy art as not being tasteless is getting harder and harder.

I find this art actually possibly more offensively lewd than Nirkana Revenant? 0.o

Well, that's partly because Nirkana Revenant was ACTUALLY SEXY, like a naughty steamy romance novel or fanfiction dream....and this Skyknight Legionnaire somehow just comes across as kinda porn-star-y. And not in a good way. -_-

Why is there Flying Cameltoe in my MTG :P
Why does it not even obviously Fly?!

YOU CAN'T EVEN MAKE ANY 'RED GUILD GIVES YOU WINGS' JOKES BECAUSE THERE ARE NO WINGS >.<
seriously? this card actually looks more Rakdos than Boros x.x
that's about as humongous a fail as you can make. :P

@lorendorky: This knight's crotch thrusting skills are so great that it can propel her skyward at lightning speed! This version of the card should be called Skyknight Crotcheteer.

Perhaps they thought the old art didn't emphasize the 'human' creature type enough? If that's the case, they definitely overcompensated. I thought I read somewhere that they saved the "very zoomed in" art for truly big creatures to give a sense of it looming over you - but this is a 2/2 and didn't need to fill so much of the frame. The cool background of columns of soldiers marching through the city streets has been abandoned. Instead we have a vague representation of wings and a tail that are far too subtly colored - unless you look at it carefully, it just looks like an orangey corona.

And nobody else has mentioned it, but the flavortext is quite bland compared to the original, too.

I was so happy when I was it got reprinted...and then I saw the art. Wizards, don't fix what ain't broken, should've kept the old art.

@Purplerooster: And if you use War Falcon as your one-drop instead of Boros Elite, you get seven damage and all of it's evasive! Crack a Rally the Peasants on the forth turn, and suddenly you're dealing with a very dead opponent (assuming you swung with the Falcon turn two after playing the Skyjek).

Pretty good no frills flyer. I can't get over the goofy crotch thrusting in the Gatecrash art though. “Hello, this is Hard Gay! Hoooooo!!!”

'The old art, once a testament of Jim Murray's ability, was quickly seized by Anthony Palumbo for it's strategic crotch placement'.

It was good in the last block, but it's actually better in this one. It fits the (new) Boros curve perfectly, and provides a good surprise Battalion attack. For three mana, it is extremely reliable two damage at least once, and reasonably reliable damage after that.

the main reason i like this card is because it lets battalion go off turn 3
i could be wrong but i cant think of any other boros card that dose that

This is one of the few creatures with flying, in which the art does not explain how the creature flies whatsoever. Looking close I can see she is mounted on some kind of animal, but have no idea what the animal is. We have to assume from context that it does indeed have wings.

Her face is incredibly realistic though, props to the artist for that. Also 2/2 flying haste for 3 is more then you can ask for in a creature. 4.5/5, great little common.

In the right deck, this guy is nice. He can trigger battalion on turn 3. And he flies. Oh yes, he triggers battalion on turn 3. Play him in aggressive boros humans. You won't regret it.

Oh, did I mention curse of stalked prey ?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it was absurd how close her crotch is to the front of the frame.

I'd love to see old art with new boros watermark, it is so much cleaner.
Works great for enabling battalion as soon as possible out of nowhere.
