Undercosted Flyer, almost unconditional removal, and a drawback that will stop mattering before too long? Awesome. 4.5/5

Note that if you Shadowborn Apostle him, you don't need to sacrifice.

At the very absolute worse, you can use his ETB on your own critters if you need that magic number for the upkeep clause.

So we get a less restrictive, less evasive 5/6 Shriekmaw for just an extra B? Damn.

That drawback is pretty big, and if you've played him as soon as possible (likely on turn 5) you won't have 6 creatures in the bin (and Shadowborn Apostle isn't constructed playable). Though at the worst, you can play him as 5 mana non-demon removal and then just sac him to his own ability if you don't have enough creatures in the bin.
Personally, while this demon's ETB is really nice, I prefer Desecration Demon for my black undercosted flier. Better against anything that isn't a token/weenie deck.
Not bad, not too exciting to me personally, kills a dude, might stick around for some beats.

It's funny, I thought he was worse than he is because they made the stupid Shadowborn Apostle support. Just look at it on its own, and it seems pretty good.

Support him with dredge ya silly! Stinkweed Imp helps you not only last long enough to cast this guy, but gives you plenty in the grave :)

This is absurd. 5/6 flying with removal for 5? This may act as a finisher in Junk Aristocrats, as your graveyard will already be filled once this hits.

I think they should have printed this as a rare instead of a mythic, simply because it doesn't feel mythic. It's a beefed up necrataal. It's simply not interesting enough to be mythic.
In an average deck, it will be a sorcery speed murder with an attached 5/6 flying wall for one turn. That's... ok. It's not awesome, but good.
In some sort of self-mill deck he is an undercosted beefy flyer with built in removal, which is pretty good.
So, of course I'd play it in limited, and I'd probably play it in some casual self mill deck. But I wouldn't play it in more serious constructed or in Commander/EDH decks.
@Serecin That would be an absolutely terrible play. The only reason that would be a good move is if you needed an attack/blocker right now, and there were no creatures that you could target on their side. If you don't have enough creatures in your graveyard, sacrifice the creature you would have targetted with this, and then kill one of your opponent's creatures.
This card is quite awesome. I just don't really like the art. It looks too human for my liking, and it looks like he has no weapons. Does he just punch the crap out of you?
The way he looks, it almost seems like he was supposed to be a warlord or something, and then they decided they needed it to be a demon instead, so they covered his face with the fiery demon thing, and put wings in the background.

I like the fact that he doesn't have a head. Makes him seem a lot more weird and monstrous.

Just sac Reassembling Skeleton every turn if you don't have enough creatures in the grave. So many uses for that card!

Odd that this is obviously supposed to combo with Shadowborn Apostles, yet it's really not the best demon to pick. It's one that's cheaper than normal, but with a drawback (In fact, it costs more mana to get it out via Apostles)
Self-mill has another solid reanimator target. Turns your Unburial Rites into kill spells if you need 'em, and it's unlikely you won't have the required creature threshold.

I had a fun Limited game when my opponent had this guy and I Cloned him. For the next few turns we were at a total standstill so we just kept on topdecking creatures and playing them so we could try to not be the first person to have to sacrifice their own Demon.
He's a pretty good card for only five mana, although he won't see any Standard play.

Was this supposed to be black's mythic Xathrid creature this time around? It's the only creature of the cycle that doesn't use its color's name.
Demons aren't a good concept in my opinion, there are many angels out there that trump Demon cards.

At worst he's a desperate kill-spell for 5cmc. When built around his creature threshold, can work wonders.

At worst, a Murder for 5 mana for which you can trade off your lesser creatures each turn for a 5/6 flyer. At best well, I don't think I need to elaborate...

I am disappointed in you wizards. All those "professional" card makers, you make this new "relentless rats" type creature, shadowborn apostle, that fetches demons, and you dedicate a mythic rare slot to a demon in the same set, yet the combo between the two is TERRIBLE.
I mean this demon is "cheap to cast" with a drawback. It would cost more mana to "cheat" him out with the apostles. Oh cool I dont have to worry about the "drawback", but I just sacrificed 6 creatures to eat a removal spell. Bravo wizards, didnt realize you could fail so hard.
Really you should have made this guy cost 9 mana, and have the same drawback. Been a 9/9 flying trample that makes the opponent discard three cards at random when it enters the battlefield. That would at least been able to protect itself.

My demons of choice would probably be Demon of Death's Gate, Griselbrand, Lord of the Void, Prince of Thralls, or Rune-Scarred Demon. Pricy, but all upside once they're on your field.
