Thank Yawgmoth, something that isn't a certain boring-ass vampire mythic! This guy's almost like a reverse Hellcarver.

If there isn't a creature among them, do I implode?
Only joking, but it does seem odd that he demands you get a creature.

Love this card. It's gonna work wonders in my casual standard "Nickin' Deck" Along side Nightveil Specter, Havengul Lich, Lasav, and Nicol Bolas

Should have been "cast a spell from among them." Come on, it costs 4BBB and has to deal damage to trigger.

I like it, a big demon without a drawback for once! ( I know that's the flavor of demons but hey every once and a while a demon that just kicks ass is cool. )

He's good, but not super awesome. A seven flyer for seven mana is... well... ok. He sadly has no trample whatsoever, so can be chumpblocked by flying tokens (and there are flying token generators in this set) all day long. The ability is nice, but is curiously worse on such a large beater than it would be on a smaller creature. If you manage to hit a player with this guy several times, then that player is dead due to the damage anyway, no matter whether you snag some creatures or not.
A difference is Commander, there this guy is already better.

Broken? Not even close.
That said, I can see this guy, as a singleton, going into esper control decks as an alternative win condition to milling or even just to make you spend mana on removal while they bleed you dry. I look forward to seeing this used creatively as an alternative to Grislebrand for those of us who can't afford to buy one.
I do, however, wish he were easier to splash.

"DEATH TO AVACYN!! ALL HAIL GRISLELBRAND!! Wait, what? What do you mean, I'm not in Innistrad?"
Honestly, not that good. I mean, if you've hard cast this guy and you're swinging on turn 8, he's gonna kill your opponent before his mill ability even matters. That's the rub with all the hate on vanilla creatures: if its big enough, the abilities don't really matter.

I played a guy who ran this in a Blue/Black mill deck. He put Infinite Reflection on it and things got really nasty. Thankfully, I drew a Cursebreak and he didn't take enough creatures from me to really cause problems. Still, a scary card in the right deck.

I bunk with this guy who loves to use Avacyn and cackles at fools who dare oppose him when he has enough mana to summon her.
Would be simply delicious to make him get a taste of his own medicine for once.

7/7 that costs , flies, mills your opponent's deck, steals one of his creatures, and has no drawbacks? This can't be! I thought this creature was black?!
In any case, and as others have already pointed out, this guy needs trample. I can't help but feel got the short end of the stick in Gatecrash (cf )...

A really neat card. I especially like the colour-scheme in the artwork. Really awesome piece.
The Function
Sure it'd be great with Trample though at the same time I'm glad he doesn't have it. I mean, how many big guys with Trample do we really need? It'd get pretty boring for me if they all had it and cards like this that don't have one thing or another just provide the opportunity for people to explore different options for giving creatures what they feel is necessary depending on what deck they are using.
I also don't feel like his milling ability is at all useless by the time you even get him onto the battlefield. Really all depends on who you're going up against. There are so many variables in any given game and I've definitely had my fair share of rounds where his ability is totally welcome by the time I get him out. Or what about the situation where you're having a 3+ person game. By the time you get him out, who says anyone is even near 0 life? The fact that you can swing one way or the other with this guy and reap the rewards is great!
Definitely an awesome card in the appropriate situations.
Cheers

I like this card, In our magic group most people play standard but then there are those like me who decide to play other formats. In this group we have some Eldrazi decks that pop out legendary eldrazi turn 3-4, I run a reanimator, but with thisI also have an eldrazi deck and I can pop out legendary eldrazi turn 1-2. Now if only it said Cast.

I use this in my reanimator deck, and it's an outstanding card. It's tough enough to block or kill most of what it tangles with, it flies, it mills (and unlike Szadek, Lord of Secrets it actually does life total damage too...in mono-black, I might add) and oh yeah it mind controls every creature it mills for free. Yep, seven mana is costly...but not THAT costly considering.

2 of in my Dimir Creature Based (Dragons Maze Standard) Mill deck to hardcast in the very late game.
Really? Give him trample? Not only would Wizards be completely obsoleting the use of Lord of the Pit But a 7/7 flyer for seven cmc that steals your opponents' creatures and is black with absolutely no drawback other than you -having- to choose a creature is already incredible in black! Giving him trample would not only raise his price but make a lot of other cards feel completely worthless. It would be like giving Baneslayer Angel vigilance.
When you special order the Divine Vs Demonic print of Lord of the Pit and the art is THAT cool, you need to find a way of playing him. You just do.

I'm pretty sure the draw back here is that you have to use combat damage to a player to trigger his ability. Oh well, I like this guy a lot and he's basically a worse version of Ashiok except he's more dangerous

So, seeing as they use his image for the character and the front of the deck, would it be safe to assume that Lord of the Void's name is Bolkru, based on the expansion for Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014?
