One of the most powerful and efficient creatures ever for that cost. I can't really think of better and more flavourful abilities it could have had. Maybe instead of deathtouch, it could have had the vampire +1/+1 counter ability whenever it dealt damage although that makes it too powerful. Maybe if it costed 4 and was a 3/3...

The more I think about it, the more I come to realise that M11 had Lightning Bolt purely because of this guy.
Could have easily been a rare, but thank goodness it wasnt. The pricetag woulda been 10 dollars or more even with its multiple printings.

Creatures with good abilities are the best, and this one has three. Also it is a vampire which makes it awesome with stromkirk captain. First strike + deathtouch = awesome 5/5

I just wanted to thank you for causing my opponents to curse and mutter profanities under their breath every time you make your way to the battlefield. Also, the maniacal laughter I let loose every time I've dropped a Followed Footsteps on you when playing with my casual group will always remain as the fondest of memories. Your attitude towards bigger harder hitting baddies is always "I ain't scared!!!" And I applaud you for that sir. One of the first cards i used when i began playing magic and is still to this day one of, if not my favorite card. Staple for every black deck i can think of and i see no reason not to run it in anything even splashing black.
