Incredibly decent in madness decks ;D

Strictly better than Abandon Hope (unless it's countered and you really just wanted to discard your Akroma, Angel of Wrath).

This card was really good for me in a dredge deck, for obvious reasons. I think it's extremely powerful, especially for a common. There's no denying it's a game-warping effect.

Play it in a reanimator deck, a madness deck, or use a lot of cards with Flashback. All of the above options are plentiful in Odyssey block. Yes, you lose one card in terms of card advantage, but you can discard your lands and most useless cards, and watching your opponent's face as you pick off his best cards is a real treat. "Hmm...I'll take this Broodmate Dragon and this Garruk... and what's this, a Blightning? Well, we wouldn't want to get hit by that, now would we?"

Anyway, turn 1 forest and llanowar elf or whatever, turn 2 swamp, cast last rites, discard a Fungal Shambler and some flashback cards, wreck your opponent's hand making sure to grab any removal and anything that he could cast in the next couple of turns, turn 3 play any land, Zombify the Shambler, and proceed to gain back the slight bit of card advantage you've lost.

I'm guessing they added the "nonland" clause so you can't Dark Ritual it out on turn one, discard whatever benefits you and strip all the lands from your opponent's hand. A two- or three-turn headstart like that is... pretty good.

"'Land destruction'? I'll do you one better!"

I was thinking of running this next to Blood Scrivener (budget) or next to Dark Confidant.

Basically you curve into this with your extra card(s) and 1-for-1 their hand to pieces; but continue gaining card advantage over the following turns with your draw-dude.

Also, this allows you to trade lands for non-lands; making it very powerful next to Land Tax or Life from the Loam
