If you really wanted to, instead of using this guy you could slip a dollar to whoever attacks one of your opponents instead of you! But seriously this guy buys you new friends during the match. Just throw down a Death By Dragons to tip everyone in the right direction.

Pretty awesome political card... No one will want to attack you, and no one will really want to kill him either because they want to keep drawing cards.

I think GU creatures have more synergy with each other than anything else in magic.
Works wonder in Archenemy too, since you got one opponent and many teammates.
That said, this card works awesome outside of EDH also.

Some people are thinking of playing him in legacy due to his low CMC. Not sure why Blue wants to draw cards hehehe

@metaviolence - I admire your psychic powers.
When I first read this, I thought he was basically Coastal Piracy on legs. Rereading it - wow.

@Wanderer: Isn't Overbeing of Myth a relevant link between the two, being both colors? Not a Legendary link, if that's what you were looking for.
Star City Games has him going for $20. Guess I'm not getting him for my casual deck. I doubt the price will go down too much, as he is just amazing in any multiplayer environment, and still good in 1v1.

As far as winning games, Edric is by far the strongest of the Commander legends. And don't even get me started on what this guy does in 1v1 EDH.

Anybody else take one look at this guy, note his creature type, colors, and uniform (forget the effect for now), and think 'HOLY CRAP ELROND IS A CARD NOW!' ???
and as for the ability- you can make or break quite a few Fellowships with this guy. Find a Sol Ring to fight over (don't ask me how, I hear in Commander anything's possible) and you've got yourself a Council of Edric!

Character Bio: In the port city of Trest, nothing escapes Edric's network of spies, thought couriers, and familiars. Even the empress of Kinnesta is wise enough to consult with Edric before she conducts maneuvers along the coast. Yet some say that a secret from his youth, over four centuries ago, still eludes him.

This is a solid card, outside of EDH, inside of EDH, basically anywhere.
He has serious potential, especially in multiplayer where he almost garuntees opponents will attack each other for the card advantage.

This is such a great card. I've been wanting a UG legend with a card drawing ability for some time now, because Maro effects are spread between blue and green with (until now) no relevant legend to link them. Let's see... Overbeing of Myth, Aeon Chronicler, Psychosis Crawler, Soramaro, First to Dream, Masumaro, First to Grow etc etc. Just imagine Multani, Maro-Sorcerer in the same deck with this guy! You can even play Storm Seeker too!
That, and he costs 3 mana and provides an disincentive to attack you early in the game. I love this guy.

I enjoy using this guy in a GU Elf deck with Sages of the Anima. Elvish Guidance and Elvish Archdruid will make it so when you swarm your enemy with 20 1/1 elves, all the cards you reveal will be played that turn.

Turn 1 manadork, turn 2 Ohran Viper, turn 3 Spymaster, attack for 1, draw 2, pass the turn.

To all those saying that Edric's ability keeps opponents from attacking you: I have never experienced this. Usually, whenever I play my Edric EDH deck, everyone tries to kill me after about turn five or six. This might have something to do with my propensity to cast Eldrazi's on turn five or six. Anyway, that aside, I love Edric and I think he'll become a fairly prominent general in the future. My current EDH deck runs a high creature count (about 40) and lots of mana ramp (about 25). It's a lot of fun and is fairly effective.

Wow! Having this as your general will make sure you stay in the game for a while. No one will want to eliminate you and cut off cheap card advantage, especially when attacking you doesn't directly help them as much. Beautiful!

Aw - anyone who says opponents are trying to edge them out of the game early on just isn't playing him right, in my opinion. If you are going to give your opponents this much card draw, make sure they will be focusing their threats somewhere else. When there are one or two opponents left, start dropping stuff like Confiscate and Rite of Replication from behind a Dissipation Field and a Propaganda and an Asceticism with an army of tokens in play and a counterspell or three in hand. Evacuation isn't bad, either. He's really, really fun if you go subtle with him, and he'll nearly always keep you in the game for a good long while.
Also, great for playing against the Archenemy and team games in general.

Good card if you want to play an aggressive EDH deck. His ability ensures that unless your opponent is playing out early creatures that they don't mind trading with (and can trade with), you're going to chip away at some health and start gaining some massive card advantage. In multiplayer EDH, it also encourages players to attack each other rather than you, in order to get that same card advantage.

I wish this broken-ass p.o.s. had never been printed. Along with prime speaker, they have made UG, an already OP color combo, completely dominant in commander. This card facilitates the opponent's precipitous decline as soon as it hits the board on turn three. It is almost impossible to recover from the card disadvantage he puts you at.
Broken broken broken...should be banhammered immediately, he's that much better than other generals.

This guy probably collects snakes in his spare time: Coiling Oracle, Mystic Snake, Lorescale Coatl, Winged Coatl
