Pay 1 mana and two life for protection seems pretty good too...

As far as white goes, there are better; but the real value of this is that it doesn't need to be in white.

Not quite razor barrier SeiberTross. Razor barrier can protect any of your permanents. Planeswalkers, lands, enchantments, whatever. This one only works for artifacts and creatures. It's not that bad, but I'd probably put neither this nor razor barrier into my decks. If I'd add an instant speed protection giver to my decks, it would probably be shelter. Drawing a card is just too good to pass.

I could see this in Infect as another version of distortion strike. Man the new set is looking so cool. I am not missing out on this one.

My friend saw this, read "Protection from artifacts" and yelled, "FINALLY!"

While I wouldn't go out of your way to pick this early, this will make it into almost any deck. It saves your best dudes from combat or removal, and all for just one mana. However, if I have even two other phyrexian mana cards (that I expect to pay life to cast), I would question putting this in a non-white build. But always board material, at the least. Probably 7th-ish pick.

...I thought we already had Brave the Elements, which is better that this card, which is highly situational and only has the exception of not being free if you Shock yourself.
Though I suppose it can be used to shut down a specific blocker that's the same color as your running and you still want to use buffs, or for Pro Artifacts.

Protection from X is a very versatile ability; can be used to remove hindering auras from your creatures, sneak an attacker past waiting blockers, or counter targeted removal (and in the case of , some untargeted damage stuff).
Phyrexian mana is very versatile, because you can run this card in just about any deck at all. I think protecting a key artifact or creature is well worth and 2 life.
Instants are very versatile, because... well, they're instants.
Triply versatile, and a common to boot; awesome art, and an awesome name; I don't normally take a shining to white cards, but this has won me over.

Loved this card to death at the launch sealed - great response to Forced Worship, and good for sneaking damage through, too.

@SoulShatterer: Brave the Elements only affects white creatures, while this can be easily used in non-white decks and, more importantly, on non-white creatures.
I consider it a mandatory playset in any deck built around Precursor Golem and the Splicers, even if you're not using other white cards. A low-cost way to protet your Golems from removal is always helpful.

Not obvious at first, but it allows you to sneak a large amount of attackers by, or let a chump blocker live to see another day.

This is the answer to Dismember, and you're potentially up 2 life. Might let Phyrexian Obliterator see play.
It's a limited-scope counter-spell, evasion, or defense--all in a very mana-efficient package! I like!

I don't use this personally, but I can definitely see how it'd be useful, particularly in a deck that relied on a few lynchpin creatures. Stop removal, countering (or at least, I think this should stop countering), on a key artifact, enchantment, or creature for one mana and 2 life? I'd say that's pretty darn good.

Both offensive and defensive capabilities: Defensively can be used to:
-Prevent a creature from recieving damage from an pretty much any creature -Nullify artifact abilities such as the {T} ability from Tumble Magnet by giving protection from artifacts -Make negative auras such as Pacifism fall off your own creature -Save a creature (or artifact) from a potential kill spell such as Dismember or Naturalize.
Offensively can be used to: -Combat trick during combat, prevent damage from an opponent's creature by giving target creature protection from one of it's colours, or protection from artifacts. -Give a creature pro. colours / artifact to make it unblockable for that colour (very effective against monocoloured decks)
An interesting side note, with Precursor Golem and his two tokens you can choose 3 different colours (or artifact) to give your golem creatures protection from, since the spell is copied 3 times.
All for {1}{W} or {1} and 2 life...at instant speed, yes please!

An incredibly versatile card. The addition of the word "Artifact" and the phyrexian white mana put this card over the top. I use it to protect my Rage Extractor. As far as instant speed protection spells go this is about as good as it gets. If you have not play-tested this card, you should. 5/5.

This thing is just plain frightening in a Livewire Lash deck. Pro-just-about-anything at 1 mana a pop (the 2 life is hardly relevant at most times) is pretty scary, on top of the fact that if you use it on a creature equipped with a lash, not only do they get their protection, but they also get to shock something AS A CANTRIP. I'm sorry, but this is just too good, seeing as I run four in my blue Infected Lash deck. This thing ends games. Test it, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Colorless protection is nice, but White decks will really get the most use out of this card, especially if they have enough life gain to justify paying it phyrexian style.

ive got a question for anybody willing to answer. i put apostle's blessing in my infect deck and usually use it as a one turn kill with two titanic growths on something like cystbearer and make it so nothing can block it since it has protection from their color if they are playing a one color deck. now my question is what if a i give it protection from black, does that mean during attacking they couldn't tap royal assasin and kill it because i gave it protection from black...or can it still destroy it? or any other card with the same kind of ability like intrepid hero. let me know if you can help!

Because I want to play white even when I'm not playing white ;)
Very versatile, very powerful
Handy in many many deck archtypes. if you run creatures or artifacts (every deck almost?) this will save you more than you'd think.
3.5 stars is a definite under-rating for this card. For 1 and two life, counter doom blade lightning bolt, etc, or make your guy unblockable vs mono colour (or potentially make him unblockable AND counter doom blade, depending on the timing) or protect an artifact from destruction. This has a lot of flexibility in what it can do, and a lot of flexibility in when you can use it.
