He also didn't help the Coalition...

I feel it's unfair to say he didn't help the coalition; he helped until Tevesh convinced him that the primevals were the side to be on. Besides, the coalition was so full of betrayal and deceit that any aid against the phyrexians entitled you to full coalition-hood.

you'll be lucky if your opponent even has a card in their hand by turn 7. I wish they would revamp him like with Nicol Bolas.

The thing is, Darigaaz is also apart of the three best mana ramps in the game. Green's naturally able to get land out, and Black and Red have several cards that provide temporary mana (i.e. something like Dark Ritual or Pyretic Ritual. It'd really only take one of each land to get him out if you have the right cards. Even if his ability isn't all that helpful, it's still not that bad of a card.

Leshrac_Nightwalker left a pretty awesome comment on the Planeshift printing of Terminate talking about Mr. Darigaaz here. Worth looking at.

Primordial Dragon EDH Review 4/5: Darigaaz, the Igniter

Darigaaz is awesome. He's a base-red Dragon. A lot of the cards you might want if you're just a natural Dragon fan, make perfect sense in a Darigaaz deck. The first card I'm going to suggest is Hellkite Overlord.

If you've been following my other Primordial Dragon Reviews, you'll know the next cards I'm going to say ought to go into your deck: Darigaaz's Charm, Darigaaz's Attendant, and Darigaaz's Caldera.

There's two more cards I'd like to mention now that I would apply to all 5 Primordial EDH decks with an obvious caveat on one: Coalition Relic and Savage Lands (really I mean this cycle must be used). I was going back and forth whether or not flavorfully Alara Lands were alright for Dominarian Dragons....but then I realized that's just silly. Without the Tri-Lands, your deck is weaker. With them, not only is it stronger, but it's really no less Vorthos than it was before. I *do* want to avoid Esper Artifacts for Dromar, but other than that, there are plenty of Grixis, Jund, Bant, and Naya cards that seem to be just good fits for decks in general and maybe even good fits for the decks' strategies. (Knotvine Mystic in Rith might be like Sol Ring on a stick for the mana it can produce?) Arcane Sanctum isn't specifically artifacty, so there's no reason to screw poor Dromar by disallowing his triple land on flavor reasons.

Back to Darigaaz. I have wierd ideas about Planeswalkers and wouldn't use 4 Sarkhan Vol in a 60-card deck. I mean I wouldn't even use 2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor if I was DELIBERATELY building Caw-Blade but I would use 1. I don't think an EDH deck should include both Sarkhan, the Mad and Sarkhan Vol and I'd apply that to other 'Walkers as well. But it's clear to me that either one of the Sarkhan Planeswalker cards would be great for Darigaaz, because he's in the Colors of Jund and Jund stuff tends to be BAMF. Go ahead and throw Lavalanche in there, too. I haven't built very many Jund decks but you should be good at making and breaking Lands.

Ultimately, Darigaaz's deck should be Violent. Don't build the deck a Magic Pro Tour Top 8 Duelist would. Build the Deck the Incredible Hulk would run against a thousand aliens, hundreds of heroes and an arch demigod villain. At once.

I try to specify fewer cards for Darigaaz than anyone else because he's just more sledgehammer than scalpel by personality- you wanna grief hands? fine grief hands. you wanna grief lands? fine grief lands. you wanna ramp and destroy the battlefield? fine ramp and destroy the battlefield. Primeval Titan and Ruination I could both see in the same Darigaaz Deck. The most important question you need to ask when building Darigaaz is this:

How many times do you get to say
"DARIGAAZ SMASH!" ?

PS: Sever the Bloodline should be mentioned either her or under Crosis for dealing with Rith's Tokens. That's all.

He has an incredibly tragic story behind him. Seriously. Poor guy.
