A B/R lobotomy? what is the world coming to?

I feel like it's more like cranial extraction

its more powerful than both. First off, you get to see your opponents hand even if the named card wasnt in it. Second, you get to remove whichever spells/creatures you know they have (bye bye cheap white removal).

This card does mutliple things at once, making it quite versatile and extremely effecient.

Perfect target for my Vengeful Rebirth in my jund deck. Completely removing cards important for any combo's your opponent is planning on doing is fun.

Thought Hemorrhage is an exact copy of Cranial Extraction with two slight differences.

1. It costs one red instead of a colourless mana.
2. It can deal 3 damage for each card you name in their hand.

Thought Hemorrhage is similar to Lobotomy because it has the 'extraction' like effect although both Thought Hemorrhage and Cranial Extraction require the caster to name a card rather than choosing one from the target players hand.

In response to Cenelder, firstly Thought Hemorrhage causes you to look in a players hand, if it didn't your opponent could easily lie. Secondly as you name a card on the resolution of the spell you can 'miss a target' in your opponents hand unlike Lobotomy where the card you name must be in your opponents hand.

I rate this card alot lower than Cranial Extraction because of the addition coloured mana it costs to cast, it also requires two different types of mana which makes it hard to splash unlike Cranial Extraction.

I like this card b/c you can totally get rid of stuff like Terminate, I have friends that absolutely LOVE to Terminate stuff, also this will permanently kill Progenitus before it even comes out!

Overall, the flexibility of this card is incredible, the only drawback I can think of is that you HAVE TO KNOW THE NAME OF THE CARD, if you forget, well you're stuck!

It's an improved Cranial Extraction! What's not to love?

This card's ability to deal damage is propably more relevant than someone, who has not tested it might think. I've finished alot of games by doing 6-9 damage with this by naming a card that I knew would be stuck in my opponent's hand (such as creature removal when I haven't been playing any creatures).

Sure, the cards main function is to disrupt your opponent, but it's ability to also deal the finishing blow puts it alot higher than Cranial Extraction in my books.

I love this card, because my opponents alway play the same decks and I know nearly every card in them (and how many of these cards they're playing). So I can eliminate their deadliest cards or the cards I know they have on their hand.

I've been having a bit of difficulty getting this to work against a red + blue counterspell deck, there is just so many counterspells! Swerve,
Negate, Cancel, Essence Scatter, (and I even made the mistake of giving my roommate a twincast), I'm probably forgetting some even.

Great card though.

So I had this pretty cool B/R discard aggro deck going on, except I kept getting killed by all sorts of combos, most of which centered around enchantments, something red and black can't kill. Well a search on here found me this and now I just need to find one that isn't 4 bucks.

Both better and worse than Lobotomy. Not a guaranteed card elimination from their hand (unless combined with Duress or another spell that allows you to look first), but it allows you to strip out cards that aren't in their hand and has the potential to deal damage.

Very much a skill card as it requires you to determine the best keys to eliminate from the opponent's deck, but when played well is extremely powerful. Awesome sideboard card.

I don't know if this is still true or if it's a prerelease only thing, but i remember a ruling that said uniquely identifying a card by describing its effects was acceptable.

Wish I'd put four of them in to play in Two-Headed Giant vs a pair of Relentless Rats decks.

I use 3 of these in main deck along with Telepathy and mostly completely disarm my opponent's deck and leave it useless in fourth-fifth turn.
I know what you may be thinking, and let me tell you this: putting this as sideboard is like going to hunt with a pack of arrows sealed and a brand new bow still on its package. (For those who did not understand:) why choosing be able to drag your foe off in 2-3th game when you can do it from the start?.
One of my favorite cards since I started playing Hellbent; my most favorite card since I started to play {U}{B}{R} control.

If you think you know what your opponent(s) are running, this is amazing. If you haven't the slightest clue lobotomy would be a better better. Although if you're deck is BlueBlackRed if might be interesting to run 4 of both.

I love the artwork too.

@Htoth3izzO:
You could also throw in Chandra Ablaze. Chandra lets you cast the ones in your graveyard, which then get doubled by Pyromancer Ascension. That's up to 8 cards exiled from an opponent's library, hand, and graveyard in a single turn.

My friend's favorite deck contains 18 Relentless Rats. Should I throw a Thought Hemorrhage against him? haha

Man, that artwork is so painful! You can just imagine how he has bled out of his head. Great card if you play it after a duress, so you don't fire blind.

It's best to use it just as a gauranteed card remover. Name Jace, the mind sculptor (or what have you) as soon as you can to get rid of the guys most powerful cards in his deck, and if he happened to have one in hand than the damage is just a bonus.

Well if you are playing a class S tournament blue/white control just use a duress and follow it up with this card.

All this card needs to be perfect is a way to look at the opponent's hand right beforehand. The only instant in the correct colors that does the trick is word of command but there are plenty of sorcerys that work. I tried Rakdos augermage once but since the ability works at sorcery speed, odds are your opponent makes you discard the hemorrhage.

I run two in my Pyromancer Ascension deck. It's Grixis colors and it is amazing. I only need two of these because of Pyromancer and Call to Mind. But what I use it with is Into the Roil. It is a menacing combo, and one that ***es off your opponent. As long as you have one Pyromancer online you can bounce two permanents with Into the Roil and next turn make sure to catch at least one in their hand. And if I have the mana I just do it on the same turn. And of course the Pyromancer will copy it at least once. I play casually by the way.

I so want to choose Squadron Hawk for an easy 12 damage versus CawBlade, but by the time I hit 4 mana they won't have 4 in their hand still. Oh well still a good combo breaker/damage card.

The three damage for each named card in hand are not important. This is a powerful card against combo decks.
Comparing it with Lobotomy is natural, but making the comparison is not so simple IMHO. Mana cost and color weight is exactly the same. Both are sorceries. Both exile all the copies of a given card of your choice from graveyard, hand and library. And these are the common aspects. Let's look at the differences.
1) Lobotomy makes you look at opponent's hand. This avoids using other cards to be sure to remove an imminent threat.
2) With Lobotomy you can only remove a card which is actually into opponent's hand, and this is a nontrivial restriction when stopping a combo deck.
3) Lobotomy doesn't deal eventual damage for cards in hand. I don't think this is very important...
4) Lobotomy allows you to remove nonbasic lands. This is a strong feature which Thought Hemorrhage doesn't have: things such as Wasteland, Ancient Tomb, Blinkmoth Nexus or the dual lands are not neglectable; it is also true that normally these lands are played as soon as they are drawn, and so it is difficult that one has come of them in hand to be chosen with Lobotomy...
In the end... Thought Hemorrhage wins also thanks to the artwork! :D
