I really think we'll come to appreciate this card better once Scars of Mirrodin rotates in...

Should cost 1, target black creatures as well, and also exile. Oh wait, they gave the good removal to white.

Way too good. And if they print a color restriction on a card, give opposing colors a choice to interact with it.

Thanks to this card, I see "falls to pDoom Blade, .5/5" on too many cards.
When Scars finally comes out,
I will go to every great artifact card that boasts its superiority,
And say "falls to Naturalize, .5/5".
Unless it's indestructable, pro green, etc.
I'm not saying this isn't a great card,
I'm just saying I'm tired of hearing about how every non-black creature is horrible because it can be Bladed.

On constructed: This is one solid common. It just instant-speed KILLS so many threats, and would definitely be seeing more play if it wasn't for Path. I think its value is going to go up substantially once Scars of Mirrodin hits - not only is the presence of artifacts going to make Terror seem even worse, but the multicolor fad is going away. More targets all around!
On limited: Easily first-pickable, this sucker kills just about everything. It's not a bomb, but it takes out just about any of your opponent's. Solid all-around; 5/5.

would a creature die if you changed its color after its been targeted by this?

One of my favourite cards. Whenever I look at it, I can hear thrumming annihilation, then a vacuous silence where existence used to be.
I can never pull myself away from the Black wedge of the colour pie for long. I try, but I can't :)
@qaq456
If the creature's colour was changed before doomblade resolved (eg: Barry casts Doomblade. Well *** you Barry I cast Aphotic Wisps ), then no, the creature would not die.

The funny thing about "dies to doomblade" comments is that I never see doom blade anywhere but limited. I see stuff like Maelstrom Pulse in Standard and Swords to Plowshares in classic, but never doomblade!

This is your state of the art black removal against none-black. The interesting question is what removal you sideboard against black. Quack sickness works fine i think, any suggestions?

Excellent removal, right up there with classics like Terror. Simple, powerful, and an almost-always "4 of" include in any black deck.

Most decks are not black, so mainboard doom blade seems fine. The only popular bomb card that doesnt die to doomblade is Grave Titan. Everything else < Doom Blade
... doesn't get rid of my Frost Raptor, unless I want so.

I'm appologize for my disapproval, but any card with color based restrictions is out of the question for me. There are way better removal cards out there. Path to Exile, Rend Flesh, Boomerang, and even Sudden Death to name a few. Personally I believe (and have learned from over 12 years of MTG playing experience) if you're playing solid black removal, you're probably losing pretty badly.
You would think black makes the best removal, but this is only true when its paired with white or blue. Aside from that, all your opponent needs is a black creature and you're done for.
Not as good as Counterspell. However its better than Terror.

Honestly though, great card for the cost. I remember using Hand of Death back when. This is 1cmc cheaper and instant speed. Should have been a Sorcery IMO.

@SleetFox, there's a 0 mana enchantment that every player is forced to play on their first turn that works from the command zone. It just says "All Black creatures protection from Doom Blade."

This card was probably created due to recent rise in artifact creatures. Rather than making the card strictly better than Terror, Wizards dropped 'it cannot be regenerated'

Apparently every non black creature only deserves 0.5/5 because every single deck that anyone has ever made irrespective of colour has four of these in it.
Using that rationale, all black creatures only rate 0.5/5 if you run this with Scuttlemutt.
Yeah it's a very useful card but it's not in every deck so get over it guys.

A very elegant and defining black card. Both cost and effect make it worth considering in any black deck sideboard..
Maining Doomblade is somewhat of a risk (if a little one, ofcourse). find yourself against a Nantuko Husk (to say one) pummeling you and the blade is dead weigth in your hand. However once you know the opponent doesn't play threatening black creatures, there you go blading the way to victory.
Elegant, powerful but not gamebreaking in my opinion... Can be stopped in a decent numer of ways (being black, indestructibile, regenerating, shroud...) but able to turn the tide of a game.
4.5/5 for one of my favourite black cards.

Strictly worse than 18 non-black creatures. Just 18. And strictly ineffective against the whole 1022 black creatures. But I guess that's what Go For The Throat is for.

The standard in card-shaped middle fingers. This and Cancel/negate/mana leak are why I love Black/Blue. Always leave one mana of each color untapped, then play pokerface as your opponent goes nuts over wether you have this bad boy or not. Sunglasses optional, GendoPose not.

Go for the Throat is just so much better in a Meta that's not arti-creature heavy. Biggest problem is when you run across that mono-black deck. Murder is just the best

5/5. If you are playing a partially black deck, you should already be banking on your opponents not playing one. And cheap, virtually guaranteed removal is always great
