I had great success with this guy during the Ice Age/Alliances and Mirage block era of Magic, playing an Erhnam-n-Burn'em deck. With Orcish Lumberjack or Tinder Wall, you could get him out on the second turn and commence the beat down. The deck also featured Jokulhaups, allowing ten mana to set you up with the only creature (and a beefy one, though Lhurgoyf would often be bigger in that scenario) in play, and your opponent nigh helpless to do anything but die within a few turns. Now try that one with Emperor Crocodile!

The Arabian Nights Djinns are pretty cool, even if they weren't that practical. Combo with Armageddon.

I think people are spoiled by easy dual lands and forgot how difficult it was to get multi-color mana in the past. A 4/5 using only ONE colored mana was a blessing back in the old days, especially since any pain land could produce it and thus nullify the drawback.
Nowadays people can play 3~5 color deck without issue, render old classic like Djinn obsolete. Splashable cards no longer hold their status. So sad.

Erhnam Djinn, along with Serra Angel and Sengir Vampire -- cards that I have at least of dozen of, each. Too bad they have all become rather dated.

A few cards in the Arabian Nights set bear names that are personally significant to Richard Garfield. In this case, "Erhnam" is an anagram of "Herman," Garfield's brother-in-law.

You can still beat face with this one. Erhnam Djinn is still awesome. Are you playing it wrong? What's your problem? Some people (See: other commenters) might think the djinn is past its prime. Fine. It doesn't outstrip its competition as clearly. Fine. It will only add to your opponent's humiliation when you stomp their face with the jackboot that is Erhnam Djinn.
