Reiver should cost :b::b::b:4 and be a mythic over Pit, or edit his ability very slighty, but he STILL deserves mythic over Pit Lord

Yeah, he should've been the king of the Demonic deck. He's like a better version of Plague Wind!
I prefer Reiver Demon over Malfegor. In order for Malfegor to be good, you have to make a big sacrifice.

Something tells me this guy was going to get new art for the Dual Deck but they ended up saving it for a new card instead. Check out Xathrid Demon; looks familiar to me.

"When Reiver Demon comes into play, if you played it from your hand, destroy all non-artifact, nonblack creatures. They cannot be regenerated."
Does this only destroy creatures or also enchantements & lands?

Absolute Hellfire Power in mono-Black Decks!!! WoC should create some lesser 2-3 CMC demons so we could play with a real Demon Tribal deck and get really rid of all those Freaky Imps from The Divine vs Demonic Decks..Do you listen Wizzards??? Give us finally some ways to make a real respectfull Demon Deck and Kick some Angelic @$$ at last!!!!!!!

@ CrossroadsDemon: I agree with that! Demons have always been rare monsters in MTG and sometimes they're just crap rares. It's time they get to show every race in MTG who's really the baddest race of all!!

I've been informed that Reiver Demon's cast ability will even wipe Akroma from the field. Is her angelic protection from Black not even good enough to defend from this Demon? Regardless, I absolutely love this card and would make it a staple in any black deck if I could only get my hands on it, but I was wondering if her protection would not work with this ability.

ok geniouses as to the debate as to whether or not reiver demon destroys akroma, the answer is no akroma survives however much i dont like it reiver has been my favorite card since i found him in my first booster pack sorry eved, sarroth you really should actually look at the rules before posting wishfull bs. according to article 702.14e of the shadow proclamation aka MTg comprehensive rulebook: Any damage that would be dealt by sources that have the stated quality to a permanent or player with protection is prevented.

This is one of my favourite creatures ever! I love the fact that entire armies of angels fall dead from the skies by his mere summoning. It is the ultimate creature for monoblack players, since all your own creatures without black will be destroyed too. Even though it is a greater demon, it doesn't have any drawbacks besides cost.
And look at that smile :D most evil smile ever!

This was the first deck I played, Demonic before I bought any cards, his power, just amazing. I was like "all your creatures die right? cool and mine live? cool!" And by all I mean all. Akroma, Angel of Wrath will die to this effect, a common way to know if a card is effected or not is the D.E.B.T. system.
Damage, all damage dealt to the protected creature will be negated. Enchant, a creature cannot be enchanted by an enchantment of the protected color (if it changes color to the protected color the enchantment is sent to the graveyard.) Block, a creature with protection cannot be blocked by any creature that has the protected color or types etc. Target, the creature cannot be targeted by any spell it is protected from (or enchanted, there are a few was to get around the targeting of an enchantment, so that is why it is important.)
Destroy is not damage, damage is "X damage" if it doesn't say damage its not damage. of course its not being blocked or enchanted by the effect, and it does not target, so Akroma is destroyed. (for the people that want to call me an idiot I am absolutely sure about this, 100000000% look it up if you want to sit there and bark at the computer).

Edit:
@raverboy1123
Dont call what we say wishful BS. And learn to read. Reiver Demon doesn't deal damage. It says destroy. Same reason Wrath of God kills Progenitus. I'm sick of being told to read the rules when people like you can't even read the cards.
@raverboy1123 Yeah, sorry, but like Eved said you're actually the one who needs to read the rules. Protection does indeed stop all damage from a source of the listed type...except that Reiver Demon doesn't do damage. That's why it says destroy. Protection does not defend against destroy effects, even though it does prevent black destroy effects from targeting it. But since Reiver Demon's ability is untargeted, Protection from Black or Protection from Demons or whatever does not block it, and Akroma and Baneslayer both will be killed by it.

I don't even know how the "can Reiver Demon destroy Akroma" discussion even came up. If I remember, there was an article when the decks were released where the main creatures of the deck fought each other (nice little article, check it out if you haven't) and at some point Reiver Demon killed Akroma. Anyway, it has been already well explained how that happens.
This is really one of those card that makes me want to turn to the Dark Side.... Powerful, cool mechanic and art

No words exists to tell how stupid ReiverDemon666's comment is. Its a f*cking four-line ability that directely reads "Creatures". Come on, english isn't that hard of a languange!
Back on topic. Revier Demon is a pretty awesome card. A 6/6 flier for 8 may not be good, but attach a 9 mana sorcery to it and it becomes pretty damn good, even though it has a gigantic mana-cost (And that's why Dark Ritual was printed).
I do, however, agree, that demons needs a comeback. What's wrong with gargantuan creatures of doom for 3 mana? Personally, I like that idea.

This guy is one hell of a demon. You get a big, reasonably efficient flier and, if you're running mostly black (and this thing's casting cost says you are) one-sided boardwipe for the price of just the demon. All demons should be portrayed as grinning evilly; this guy could teach them all.

And what if your opponent is playing black/artifact? Not to mention your own white/green/blue/red/colorless creatures would get wtfpwned. Plague Wind would be better in both of those cases. No, it's not strictly better.

One of my most epic multi-player chaos games was one with this bad boy.
I drew him and a tendrils in my opening hand, and the proceeded to draw lands or useless stuff for most of the rest of the game. I was beaten down to like 5 health. Then the majority of people seemed to think I was dead anyway as they knew all I had drawn once I got to this ridiculously low amount were Phyrexian Arenas.
I bided until I had about 12 Swamps out and dropped this SOB. Everyone's stuff fried and the one thing that survived got Tendriled to death. Everyone had taken such a beating by that point I just smacked the rest of the players off by 6 a turn.

This really happened once with my friend... My friend played with red Goblin-Devil-deck. I played with black-green-deck. My friend started the game...
My friend: "HAHA! Best opening hand ever!" (He plays mountain, then Rite of Flame and Ornithopter, then plays Kuldotha Rebirth to sacrifice Ornithopter.) "...And that wasn't all!" (He plays Vexing Devil.) "Do you wish to take damage?"
Me: I don't think so.
My friend: Well, ok...
(My turn begins...)
Me: "I play swamp, then Dark Ritual, another Dark Ritual, then THIRD Dark Ritual." (I have seven (B) and one (G) in my mana-pool.) "Now I use all the mana and I cast Reiver Demon..."
My friend: Hoooooly crap...
