Get this creature to gain some trample or double strike!

Not double strike. Double strike = two hits = two lands go boom. And that's generally not good.

Otherwise, love the Jund-esque art syle. It's gritty and intense. Say what you will about Wizards, they know how to assign artists to a setting.

At five power, I'd sacrifice a land any day. No problem. I mean, how many times do I need to smash for 5? (yes, I understand that the answer is four. thank you)

Hey... he's good! A playable Minotaur! I never thought I'd see the day. ;)

I think sligh will be viable in Zendikar, and this guy fills the 3-mana creature slot quite well. A red creature for 3 mana for FIVE power? Oh yes. Not only does he win in 4 swings, he's going to kill just about anything he blocks.
...And I thought Ashenmoor Gouger was good.

trample is not a good idea, as you have to sac a land even if only one point of damage gets through, first strike is fantastic on him, and to be honest i see him more as reds defense: it deters enemies from attacking cause they know their creatures will get killed

this guy turn 3, lightning talons turn 4 you got a 8/2 first strike blocker for 6 mana. yeah as a red player I can find something better to with this mana but if you feel you need some fire power and you don't have that much money because both of these cards are commons. If you got the money you can get some goblin assaults and Eldrazi Monuments and make your opponent cry

My new Black/Red buid uses this. Great combo with Teetering Peaks/Vampire's Bite and Quest for Pure Flame for double damage. You can always sacrifice teetering peaks and retrieve it with Grim Discovery on the next turn.

Ah, this creature is awesome.

At first glance I thought this card sucked, until I really did the math... well worth sac'ing lands for that type of damage

Aside from giving you a total bruiser, this card also gives you another incredible piece of art from Raymond Swanlund... seriously, his cards are ridiculous.

This guy is awesome in limited. 5 power for 3 mana. You don't get much better than that. If you're ahead, you swing and do 5 damage and win the game faster, at the expense of one measly land, and if you're behind this can easily block and trade with other creatures.

Outside of limited... well, he's alright, but ball lightning is better in monored, and there are just better 3 drops in general.

He's a real powerhouse for a 3 drop, especially in red. 4.5/5.

Good for Swing'N'Fling, and Fling is coming back to standard in M11.

Raymond Swanland's art DEFINES the gritty, primal stylization of Red.

Every time a block has a theme where you accumulate huge amounts of something, red's theme is using them as ammunition. See also Scars block.

I think a deck with four of these guys and four Fling would rock in pauper.

If you're not in pauper, then play Fatal Frenzy before the fling for a potential 20 pt haymaker.

Furnace Celebration. That'll stop him from trading with bears.

@DacenOctavio Nope. Opponent can still choose to block. The land is not sacrificed when it attacks, but when it deals damage to your opponent.

Really powerful. But I wish it would have been a 4/2 haste.

Everyone says giving him double strike isn't a good idea, but aren't eventually going to attack with him more than once and therefore sac two lands anyways? No? D:?

not to mention it functions as a type of evasion since your opponents want you to sac lands

This guy wants haste.
Not that he should, because that would just be unfair.

Run with a deck that needs only 1-2 lands to work, and this guy running cleanup.

This is a very interesting card, and one that takes more thought than the usual red attitude of "swing swing swing!" Pace yourself with this guy and he'll keep the pressure on your opponent. Over extend and you'll end up behind. It's all about the timing when it comes to this minotaur's strikes.

You THINK double strike would be bad with him, and the thought of losing two lands in the process doesn't seem appealing. But remember, he just dealt 10 damage because of double strike if he got through, and you only lose those lands IF he got through. Even if he was blocked, 70% of the time he slaughtered and survived what blocked him, or he took it with him. 10 damage at the cost of two lands is usually not a bad thing if that is the last 10 damage you need.

Obsidian Battle-Axe...7 damage for the price of sac'ing one land? Sure, I'll sign up for that :)

This guy's drawback can actually be an advantage as well. It means people tend to let him through for "value". One time I swung with this, a nettle sentinel and a goblin guide along with him. My for decided to take five and cripple my land, as he only had two blockers. Wild might and double cleave showed him the error of his ways.

Am I the only one who thinks he coulda cost {R}{R}? Compare him to tarmogoyf, and tombstalker. Obviously this guy might actually be too good at that cost or with haste, but wizards have made bigger leaps of faith before and red still needs their 2 cost beater.
