Much as this card wants to be the next StP, it's not. StP is always good, while PtE is only good late in the game when your opponent has played his finisher and doesn't need more land. Might as well cost 3 mana. More direct creature removal is always good for white, though.

This card in my opinion is overrated. It can be good if cast at the right time. The question to ask yourself is: is preventing damage this turn/ preventing combo this better than getting smashed the next turn? Works well with telepathy though.

Like a good cheap removal card, Path is a double edged sword of goodness. On one hand, you need to decide the appropriate time to kill that creature without giving them the jump in mana (you may, if they're colour or mana screwed, decide that NOT Pathing a creature will help you more). But once you do, that creature is gonezo! They're NOT unearthing (see ya, Shambling Mound!) nor are they persisting (you too, Kitchen Finks!).
Even better, much like Swords to Plowshares, you have the opportunity to use the spell on your own creature in order to move yourself ahead if you are stuck. Unlike with Plow, which can give you enough life to reach the next turn (and hopefully the win), Pathing your own creature can give you that important next mana OR prevent you from being colour screwed (something that is especially important during the Alara block!).
Finally, for us cheap people, it's an uncommon that isn't ridiculously easy to get... you have to work to find it, but still can get a full set for about twenty bucks.
With that, I give Path to Exile a 5/5 as a card that should be in EVERY deck playing white... making it a flexible tool that you should use carefully, like any very good magic card.

One of the best cheap white removal ever made. I'm actually glad that this card was printed as an uncommon rather than a rare; makes it ten times easier to get them. Giving your opponent a free land might not seem all that great, but when you can easily take out thier best creature its worth it.

Awesome card, could be game changing. Unearthing is out of the question, as this card removes its target from play. If this card were drawn during a middle of a game versus a blue deck, it could be devastating; depending on the creatures in play. Highly useful.

This is an amazingly good removal card, but it fixes your opponent's lands. Is it worth it? Probably, but just keep an eye out. I had one game at an FNM where my opponent was manascrewed for one color. I could have used Path to Exile to make the field a little easier for me deal with, but that may actually have been a bad move. Thankfully, I decided not to play Path, and managed to win because my opponent was unable to play half her hand.
Also, play it on your own creatures right before they're about to die to fetch a free land if you can't hit your opponent.

Path to Exile. this is a great card, needless to say. against a creature heavy deck it is perfect mid/late game. even if you find yourself against a deck with no creatures, they will surely be playing creature removal. why not rampant growth at instant speed for a single mana if your creature is going to die anyway? very versatile. coupled with harm's way for early game single white removal, white is looking deadly all around with removal.

I have to say, I think they are majorly overdoing it on the removal lately. You can spend 9 mana to put some gigantic creature into play, and 1 mana from your opponent exiles it on the spot. I can say without a shred of insincerity, that you can very easily play creatureless decks these days. Creatures matter less and less especially when cards like this are printed. I wont say I hate it, I would just say theres to much of it for easy mana cost.

I think I would rather have my opponent gain life with swords to plowshares than getting a free land. Often 4, 5 or even 6 life won't make your opponent any harder to beat if you're playing your deck right, whereas extra land may become disastrous for you. This is not to say it's a bad card of course. It's quite excellent, just somewhat more liable to backfire than StP.
I believe this to be better than Swords to Plowshares simply because if you Swords a Dreadnought or a certain Marit Lage token you give you opponent a ridiculous amount of life. One land for removing a possible gaming winning creature like the above mentioned, sounds like a fair deal to me.

Could have been better if the free basic land is put into the player's hand instead of directly into play. There's a high percentage that you might need to play this in the early turns to remove a threat (2nd turn staples like Bloodghast or Hellspark Elemental), and you certainly don't want to give your opponent that quick mana boost. At least your opponent will have 3 lands next turn instead of 4. The "delay" factor becomes critical.
Consider this disturbing but not implausible scenario: You use this card to exile your opponent's Bloodghast, but then the free comes-into-play land fishes out the other Bloodghast in his graveyard! God help you if he has more than one in his graveyard eagerly awaiting landfall. And with the popularity of vampire decks nowadays, this situation might happen more often than you'd expect.
All things considered, this is still a solid card. Swords to Plowshares is still better, though. 4/5

Undercosted. This has no use really early except to neem your opponent's Llanowar elves or other mana rampers, and this is useless with its drawback. Later, you would much rather they not have a Darksteel Colossus than a Forest. The best use for this is to wreck unfair early-game killer combos (like Hexmage + Dark Depths). Still, this card would be all around fairer if it cost more.

Gotta say this is a REALLY powerful card. Honestly if I could afford it I would get it, sadly people hold onto it to the point that it actually costs more than the clearly superior Swords to Plowshares.
Either way, White removal does seem to be getting outta hand, with all the monster removal that doesn't even say destroy or doesn't say target, Journey, O Ring, Path, the field wipes to destroy all creatures. This card itself is under-costed and at instant speed with no real counter minus a counter-spell, bounce, or maybe Vines of Vastwood.
Soft counters won't work, this thing is too cheap in mana cost, if they have to pay an extra 1-2 of any color? They'll pay it to remove that creature they don't like. And Blue is getting pwned sadly ): No recent good non-land cards minus new Jace, Treasure Hunt, and Archive trap imo (and you can run archive trap in MONO white with this card O_O). Reprint Disrupt! Blue's answer to all the one drop's for each color. Path, Duress, Lightning Bolt, eer cant think of one for green lol. Maybe but nah, just let them decide..I just want to see old cards again XD.
Anyway 5/5 rating for the card, Instant at 1White mana creature exile for this cost? Crazy, not as good as Swords. But still awesome cause you can actually use this to force somebody to activate your archive trap, Or just exile their big creature without them gaining a bunch of life.

This is exceedingly powerful. Not only is it an extremely effective mid- and late-game removal spell that can be played reflexively with only a single mana open, it also functions as early-game acceleration if you're feeling brash enough to take the card disadvantage. I'm thinking two lands on the first turn with Ornithopter. Very rarely is it the wisest way to use this, but the fact that even if such a situation never comes up, you still have the best single-creature removal spell since Swords to Plowshares makes that not really matter much. You can also play it early on a huge, cheap threat like Tarmogoyf, but it's almost never a good idea.
If you're a non-Spike in casual games, it can also be used as a mercy card on a player suffering from mana drought, and it doesn't even feel that much like charity since you're taking a creature.

Do I seriously have to remind everyone how bad white was prior to Shards block? White had Wrath and StP, both of which were gone for a big chunk of time that this was in standard. Naturally, people leaped at the chance while blue players forlornly walked the streets, doomsayers all. If it's "overpowered," it's because everyone plays it, drawback and all.

It's self-regulating, so that if you play it too early in the game you risk giving your opponent a serious mana advantage, but played late its low casting cost doesn't really benefit you as much.

White didn't have so much definitive creature removal that was so cheap until, I think, Oblivion Ring... White removal should be restricted or non-definitive, and surely not so cheap and easy to use... Nowadays white removal are surely more powerful and cheaper than the black ones. Don't have even restriction of any sort! And stop saying that this is fair because Swords to Plowshares was in alpha, because even Ancestral Recall was, as already said! So why not reprint Ancestral?
I think that white removal should be like Devouring Light (or damage based), only for ATTACKING creatures, not blocking... I mean: how the color of justice punish people that want to defend itself?
Increasing this card's mana cost by could have made this card a lot more balanced, at least... 3/5

So which is better, Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile? This is an opinionated topic, so here's mine. If it were draft, Swords would get the edge, in that scenario, 9 times out of 10 you'll be using this only on your opp and i'll gladly give you 1-6 life over a free not to forget ADDITIONAL land. With that said however, I do believe that this card, when properly built around, CAN an often will be more dangerous.. This logic seems to be a trend in MTG these days (bringing back old powerhouses, changing the name and giving them an ability with a clause that only makes them better than their predecessor in the right scenario(s), a prime example of this would be Avacyn Restored's "Miracle" cards). Any whoo, putting this card in the right deck could give you added speed in the event you find yourself mana screwed but also be your source of removal with a tolorable drawback (I say tolorable because the majority of the time, if you're going to give your opp 1 additional land, chances are he/she already has enough to play his/her threats because obviously they already did and 1 additional land (to them) is most likely water under the bridge.. Note: NOTHING in Magic is Full-proof, not even the most feared Power-9. If that were the case, this beloved game would go down in a burning heap of stalemate. Too conclude: I personally like this card better for the versatility. Yes, I would rather give life points instead of land to my opp in exchange for 1 of his/her guys, but I myself would rather recieve a land when using it on myself and in the right deck, such as my U/W control in which I run 4 of's of this and Misthollow Griffin, it ROCKS. If you play a card like this ONLY for removal, pick yourself up a playset of S2P, but if it's versatility you're looking for, this is the one you want. Thanks for listening! :))

Guard Duty, Pacifism, Journey to Nowhere, Oust, Day of Judgment.
What the ***, W?
(And Silence, too, is pretty darn annoying)
What's happening? My Timmy sees the light at the end of the tunnel and is turning Spike just to be able to overcome W's new taste for cheap removal.
If you're a non-Spike in casual games, it can also be used as a mercy card on a player suffering from mana drought, and it doesn't even feel that much like charity since you're taking a creature.
me: in response to that i will path to exile her...
opponent: ouch :(
me: did how much u pay for that again? lol :)
opponent: i cast vampire noctornus and i swing for the kill with four flyers
me: umm, interesting... in response to your attack i will path to exile your noctornus, oh and your vampires dont fly anymore. block block block combat damage resolves your creatures are dead.
opponent: :(, i concede...
me: i dont balme you.
Pilgrim's Eye + Path to Exile = 1 land in hand + 1 land in play + I use it to block a big creature.
Ha!
Meanwhile black has what? Doomblade is the best? 2 casting cost, non-black targeting, and destroy?
I don't understand the color wheel anymore.
5/5 for power... but seriously, they shouldn't make these.
I grow weary of having to remind people that white is only now just starting to enjoy a couple of really good cards. 15 years into the game.
Please do NOT make any more cards like this. I heard they are reprinting Black Lotus next.
For being really, really irritating...rating 1/5.
This is not better than Swords to Plowshares in most scenarios, however.
Annihilator has ruined the game.
Because of it you need a rediculously OP mana ramp, to a creature that needs more counters than any others.
To be honest eldrazi are the worst thing to ever happen to Magic.
That said, it is a bit TOO good. I would have made it cost 1W at least.
I think that white removal should be like Devouring Light (or damage based), only for ATTACKING creatures, not blocking... I mean: how the color of justice punish people that want to defend itself?
Increasing this card's mana cost by
3/5
5/5 seems broken, isn't really.
It's especially fun when your opponent doesn't have any basic lands, which given that so many Modern players run fetchlands and shocklands, isn't as unlikely as it was when this card was made.
Something is wrong with this picture
4.5/5 Stars
Sad to say I have before...
