I wanted Dichotomancy to be playable SOO bad, but it wasnt. Not even with a Grozoth deck that could fetch it..easy.

This is like a reverse Dichotomancy, but it costs 2 less and is REALLY color intensive....oh and it only does 5 permanats.

Its OK at best, but I cant fetch it with Grozoth and what kind of combo needs doubles of 5 dudes that hasnt won by the time thye have GGWWWUU.

Not terrible, but not worth GGWWWUU either.

ttian it may not be very Jund but it definitely is Bant. It is fun to use to get 5 more exalted creatures into play.

Can you also choose a permanent twice?

Its "choose five permanents you control" meaning 5 different permanents.

And i think u shouldn't search for Progenitus for two reasons:

1. If you have Progenitus in play, you propably are winning without other one, and
2. if you search Progenitus with this, you are stupid because they are legendary and they instantly go to grave.

Yes you can. The card's never stated that you can't only search for more than one. It said "five permanents", so in turn, you can even search for 4 lands and Progenitus for all we care.

Quazlor you are incorrect. The card says "same name" FOOL. I am fully aware of the legendary rule.

Too bad you need to already have cool shit out for this to do anything

What happens if you target the Splinter token that Splintering Wind makes and you search for the Kamigawa artifact hate instant Splinter? Does this actually put the instant card into play??

Between blue and white, you're probably gonna be playing a bit of control alongside this card, so you can get to seven mana no prob between Wall of Denial and Rhox War monks, etc. Can also use signets to charge up the mana faster.
I know it sounds silly, but it's actually really productive to choose mana producing permanents as a part of your five, unless you already have five killer perms out on the field. If you get this spell off, you're basically accelerating your game by a couple of turns, and in a bant deck, which usually takes its time (unless that ****sucker Rafiq is in play) that can mean victory on your following combat phase.

Works with Allies nicely, doesn't it?

At least this isn't as bad as Violent Ultimatum. C'mon, Wizards, take the hint! If you put "Ultimatum" in a card's name, make it something awesome, like the Grixis and Naya ultimatums.

Not very good. Better than brilliant ultimatum, but coming into play tapped makes this card even worse than it already was.

Also, EnV, Progentius is legendary. Quazlor is correct, stop flaming.

It should've fetched for fewer permanents, but put those permanents into play untapped. The tapped clause really kills this card.

Allies, landfall, Slivers with cumulative effects, those Kamigawa 'Star' Dragons, Amulet of Vigor, this Ultimatum goes well with a lot of stuff.

Underrated for sure. This is the BANT ultimatum. What's the Bant ability word? that's right, Exalted. If you've got an evasive/unblockable creature ready to go and you fish up 3, 4, maybe even 5 more exalted cards you're easily looking at a 10/10 creature smashing into your opponent's face. And if you happen to have something truly nasty like Rafiq of the Many or Finest Hour on the table (how about 2x of those), Clarion becomes just as much of an "I win" spell as Titanic or maybe even Cruel.

Plus, this spell does terrifying things with Allies, Slivers, or anything else with nice ETB triggers. Just because a spell doesn't say "You win the game" doesn't mean it's not game breakingly powerful. Be a little creative people.

I don't know why this card is being compared to titanic ultimatum at all.. I run a deck with two titanic ultimatums and they frankly aren't that easy to play, you have to at least have multiple creatures worth playing it on and I have had a few games where someone plays naya charm or some other tap all creatures ability right after I use it. It has the potential to be big, but is iffy in actual practice. The two best ultimatums are easily violent ultimatum, and cruel ultimatum. Violent ultimatum because killing three permanents is a lot of card advantage, and it includes planeswalkers, enchantments, and artifacts. It's truly a catch all spell that is never bad, as in unless your 1 life from death and its not enough to save you, killing three of your opponents permanents is always good. Cruel ultimatum by comparison is just plain overpowered and slightly unfair, even if it doesn't cause the person its played against to lose that much (maybe they sac a thrinax or have no cards in hand) it gives so much back to the user that it seals the game.

This ultimatum on the other hand, is exactly like the problem with titanic though in a different way, as in you need something worth using it on in play. You could use it to grab a lot of mana accel. to play something really big (i.e. grab all your mana accel and blast them with a fireball, cast progenitus, or use door to nothingness), you could use it to grab a lot of creatures with when enters or leaves play affects including elementals with evoke, kamigawa dragons, archon of justice, and others. You could also use it to specifically grab enchantments that stack on eachother, or something that puts more creatures into play (aka fists of ironwood). So, in essence the biggest problem is actually finding something to combo it with, since the permanents you want already have to be in play, and because rather than just giving you a straight advantage like cruel ultimatum you have to work for it. I would imagine that its intended that you use wargate with this card to find what permanents you want out of your deck (albeit at a higher +3 mana cost to use the gate) and then follow up with the ultimatum.

@TheTraitorKing: Not as bad as Violent Ultimatum? I must disagree. Violent is the second best ultimatum next to Cruel Ultimatum. You must never have played, or heard of, the deck that can cast Violent on your 3rd turn and destroy everything your opoonent has on the battefield.

As for this card, it's okay. It's only really useful when you have 4 or more creatures on the battefield, and then you have to hope and pray (not a good way to play magic) that your opponent doesn't cast a Day of Judgment or something of the sort, like my personal favoite board sweeper, Earthquake.

What!! I thought this was going to be more well liked by everyone. I've used this card and it has been crazy awesome! i always use it to bring out more exalted creatures, and then attack with jhessian infiltrator. Think about it, everyone is saying it sucks because they come into play tapped, but you should be able to bring out a bunch of exalted creatures and then finish with the kill. Personally, in Bant I think Jhessian Infiltrators, and Whispersilk cloak/Canopy Cover (something along those lines) should be put into Bant, so you can attack with that one creature for 8 or whatever and not have to be chump blocked.

Titanic ultimatum is pretty much a game ender if your opponent does not prevent combat damage. I think this one should at least let you bring your permanents untapped. Especially with Royal Assassin on the loose!

Well...unless you want more lands.

@PhyrexianAdvocate I actually disagree with you a little bit there. This can actually be very nice in an EDH if you use it right. The colors of bant are blue white and green. This would work as a very good deck thinning and mana ramping agent, especially if you do something like twincast it with an amulet of vigor on the field. You're effectively paying 10 mana to get 10 mana on the field, that is playable. You lose 10 pointless draws and give yourself a lot of breathing room to play whatever you want. (I usually go into a praetor's counsel, or blue sun with a reliquary tower out and watch as my friend shout various profanities at me:)

Plus, IT'S FREAKING CHEAP, a dollar or less to pull out my exalted creatures to pump up a jhessian infiltrator, Rhox War Monk, or anything else to leave a mark and this is a turn-around card right here.(I'm talking about the regular format of play now.)

I'd much rather prefer Doubling Chant over this any day. In addition to costing less, and being significantly more splashable, it's effect is not limited to only 5 targets, but as many as you want.
Also the creatures don't come into play tapped.

The only clear advantage this has over Doubling Chant is that it works with ANY permanents, not just creatures. Though i'm not sure how useful that is, seeing as most non-creature permanents (specifically, enchantments and Planeswalkers) don't have a any actual benefit for having multiples out.

Oh, look at that. My Sliver deck just happens to be green/white/blue, and it doesn't target, so it goes well with Crystalline Sliver. Nice. It's a bit of a win-more-card, and it's hella expensive, but still nice.

I can see this being rather potent in Blink decks (just not the Commander-compatible varieties). That's up to FIVE EtB effects you just pulled in at once.

In most cases this card did seem underwhelming - even though it's a 5-for-1 that affects the battlefield - it *never* occurred to me to use it in a deck with Eternal Witness. Get the E-Wit out, and it becomes a 5-for-0 until you run out of E-Wits (and clone-type creatures ^_-). At 7 mana its expensive, but surely you'll be getting a land or two out each time you use it - and if not, you should be getting enough board presence to make your opponent sweat.

It pulls lands, it pulls your Exalted creatures, it pulls any of your handy dandy enchantments, it's just an overall useful card and I'm surprised it hasn't seen as much play, especially in my casual group.
Hmm...Maybe I'll build a Bant deck and go nuts.

Would be a lot more powerful (not to mention usable in Commander) if it searched for permanents that shared a type with that permanent. Then again, that would be overpowered.
I suspect Allies or Slivers would be good with this.

@DritzD27: You can't cascade with an Ultimatum'd Ardent Plea. Cascade requires you to cast the spell, and this just puts it onto the battlefield.

Lets see... I chose:

Sublime Archangel
Sublime Archangel
Silverblade Paladin
Sovereigns of Lost Alara
Ardent Plea (Cascading into a Fateful Hour Gather the Townsfolk)

Then I attack with my Knotvine Paladin (bonded with the Paladin) while putting an Eldrazi Con***ion out with the Sovereign.

(Eldrazi Conscr iption for those who are not familiar. Darn censor)

All in a token deck with about ten other creatures out and a Finest Hour.
Overkill? Yes.
Worth it? Totally.

EDIT: @Magnor_Criol Well spotted, didn't notice that at the time.

Get the rest of your Noble Hierarchs and have both increased mana production and Exalted!

Though 7 CMC to tutor for Noble Hierarchs seems pretty silly. I doubt I'd have any realistic use for this, but I suppose I'll try running proxies and see how it goes.
