What a strange card.. I guess its useful for providing blockers and picking off weenies. It would get a lower rating if it wasn't GREEN, of all colours.

it really doesn't need C. upkeep AND an effect to hurt you

a negetive ability and com. upkeep!! wile the abilitys in able it to be breakable. (for example this one artifact doll that diverts damage delt to it to other creatrues or players, but they don't have to be you or you creatures. ) it is not worth how bad it makes it when it's alone

Oh, this card is horrible. And I kept pulling it out of the rare slot in Alliances boosters. Ick. Obviously printed as a means of giving green some form of direct damage (it had none at the time), but its drawback crippled it. Should only ever be played next to Humility.

Pretty bad in and of itself(though with the size of most green creatures and life gain so available in green(esp. Green/White, for both points), I can honestly say the downside isn't horrid, just too much for such a small effect. Definitely has potential though, with cards like Vigor or Fungasaur. Last point, it's better if you stop looking at the C. upkeep as a cost and more as a way to kill off the tokens without a Sac outlet.

@ChampionofSquee: Giving this away would do nothing, as the card does nothing unless it is activated. So you would just be wasting a card slot to give your opponent a card he can ignore.

This could be decent with a Stuffy Doll attached with Pariah on the field.
3 mana to ping Stuffy for 1 and make a token. Don't worry about paying the upkeep. When that token dies, 1 damage to you and 1 to Stuffy, pariah means 2 damage to Stuffy, which means 2 more damage to your opponent!
See, 3 damage for 3 mana! No way any card could beat that with Stuffy/Pariah......o hai that Pyrohemia

Oracle text is functionally different from printed text; there's no reason why errata should kill the Bazaar Trader trick.
So damn weird. Also, Mimeofacture the token. I read about the combo today and it's super retardedawesomepointlesslove 1.5/5 simply because it manages to give you tokens with the most annoying ability ever printed
Actually, giving this away could work. The damage when the tokens leave play is an ability of the enchantment, not of the tokens. So you make a bunch of tokens (killing some things in the process, of course), attack with them for as long as you can afford them, then Donate the enchantment (Bazaar Trader unfortunately doesn't work with enchantments). Now, when your Splinters die, they'll make your opponent and his creatures take the damage, not you.
This is the same way it worked with the wording printed on the card, so I'm not sure why anyone's complaining about the Oracle wording.
Hold on. If you make, say three of these tokens, then on your next upkeep, only pay two, the third, 'unpaid' token will die, leave the battlefield, trigger, deal a damage to you and each creature you control (read, the other two tokens), they will die, THEIR leaves play triggers will also hit, and you take two more damage?
If that is what happens with multiple tokens, this just got hilariously worse in my eyes. Still an interesting card, but, really? They all kill one other, in turn hurting you even more?
You can both burninate creatures with this enchantment, exchange the tokens you get for some beefy creatures the other player has, and if that player has no green mana available, the tokens will die in his next turn. Sounds like fun to me.

Throw this in an enchantment control deck and combo with Death Pits of Rath.

Sweet jeebus, you know a card is horrible when even Hornet Sting laughs at it.
That said, pretty good with Vigor. Also, it gave green a flying creature AND direct damage, both pretty rare at the time in green.

Lashknife Barrier or Mark of Asylum might help a bit.
3 mana and a iife to ping one guy and throw a token in front of an attacker.
Maybe Mirari's Wake?

Also, try Essence of the Wild.

That's definitely a splintering effect, alright.
