can be awesome - turn two: play land grant drop this thing
and can suck - when your in top-deck mode and draw this it's a dead card

Cause it's so hard for elves to play two spells in one turn.... Still the most broken tribe. Still!

@Vinifera7:
I believe he was referring to the fact that land grant is conditionally free and can be dropped second turn in addition to this card which can only be played if you played a green spell in the same turn which you play this card and Land Grant is green so it meets the condition very well. That will work. Think. And learn.

I loved the reaction I got when I first played this card.

"...and I'm casting Talara's Battalion. It's a 4/3 trample for 2."

"Wait, what? Let me see that... Oh, that's fair."

I love how ridiculous elves can be.

The best free spells for this would be Manamorphose or Land Grant. They're free both in terms of mana and card advantage, thought Land Grant might be tricky to build around. This also fits right in after an Insist.

Also, Basking Rootwalla with Wild Mongrel out.

@WeAreTheFury:
Playing a forest is not the same as casting a green spell. That will not work.

Re: Oh, Land Grant. I guess capitalization and auto-carding helps.

Man, this is one easy-to-cast cheap fatty in the right deck.

Use it on turn two with green spells with an alternate cost like Manamorphose, Vine Dryad or Skyshroud Cutter.
Use it on turn three with just about any green one-drop, Firewild Borderpost.

Oh, and then there's also Green Sun's Zenith, where you don't have to worry about any other green spells at all.

Could be fun on turn one as well: Cast Skyshroud Cutter and sacrifice it for Metamorphosis, then you can cast Talara's Battalion and something else for up to 3 mana.
(Or you could even just cast a WUBRG creature, although i can barely imagine any of these suiting into a monogreen deck for this narrow combo...maybe Bringer of the Green Dawn)

@InHarmsWay- Yes, since BBE is a green spell, this will count as your second green spell. Also, I love using this with Wren's Run Vanquisher. Play the vanquisher, reveal battalion, then play battalion. 7 points of power on turn 4, and that's not even with all the other things elves can do.

Turn 1: Forest, Llanowar Elves
Turn 2: Forest, Heritage Druid, Nettle Sentinel
Then tap all three elves to play Talara's Battalion, untap your Sentinel and you're still floating 1G with a 2/2 and a 4/3 trampler. If you can get down another 1 drop you could tap those 3 for one of the lords ie. Imperious Perfect. Then it's turn 2 and you have 4 2/2s, a 3/3 and a 5/4 trampler.

Nice beater to play with Green Sun's Zenith if you aren't partial to paying 110 bucks for each Goyf.
