Great addition in a black-red deck... i run this together with Shambling Remains and Hellspark Elemental and Hell's Thunder, and this guy helps a lot... its very cheap for a 4/4 creature, dnt mind its inability to block attacks, coz a black-red deck has lots of removal spells so dnt worry... it doesnt die from most burn spells and will surely beat ur opponent down as soon it starts attacking...

Great card for B/R Beat-down. 5/5. (This and Shambling Remains are the only 3 mana creatures I need)

One of my favorite first turn drops, along with Hypnotic Specter.

I prefer Shambling Remains for the Unearth ability, but this guy has a more flexible mana cost, as well as 4 toughness (over Shambling's 3), making it very resistant to red removal.
Both are very strong creatures in a beatdown/aggro deck.
@IshubarashI: Leatherback Baloth wont be laughing when it takes a Doom Blade in the face while Ashenmoor Gouger goes on to deliver 4 damage to the player. On top of that, Leatherback is a 4/5 Vanilla for 3CC, there are better green creatures with abilities for 3CC. The fact that this is a black/red creature available to mono red decks and can still hide from Doom Blade, Terror and Lightning Bolt makes it so much more playable. Also, in the words of Red: "what is blocking?".
This card is excellent. The type of deck it's designed for doesn't need to block. Should get out a good clean amount of damage before they can get rid of it, for an excellent mana cost. Truly a great card.

Wonderfully aggressive 3-drop. Give it some evasion and go to town.

Hybrid mana cards are great because they allow flexibility yet retain flavor. A strong card, try to find a better almost-vanilla creature you can run in mono-red...that can't be doom-bladed.

Am I the only one who finds the flavor text incredibly sad?

Like having an already unleashed card for my rakdos deck. No drawback. If the decks that use this card need to block, they will already have lost.

Usually a 4/4 Wont be kept around to block, espically in red. 3/5 Stars
