I have a sort of a love/hate relationship with this card. ;) It really seems a bit underpowered to me everytime I play it, but Persist makes it excellent post-Wrath, and it's a great mana sink, too. Sometimes it's very bad, sometimes it's awesome. Depends on the matchup. But I really can't help comparing it to Boggart Ram-Gang all the time. Nevertheless, it's won me quite a few games, actually. Like I said, love/hate. :P I think I'll go with a 3/5.

This card has a lot going for it as long as you have the mana handy. Of course it dosen't hurt that it is also a Spirit so in spirit decks you can use Soulshift to bring it back.

Why isn't this rated higher?

SOLID 4/5. C'mon, it's a WHITE shade! We all love Nantuko Shade's ability to swing for 4 on turn 3. Well, this can swing for 5 on turn 4, persists, and has the flexibility to be run in a ,, or deck!

The reason this isn't rated higher is because this isn't technically a shade. The "shade ability" is "{B}: ~ gets +1/+1 until end of turn." this is "{B}{B}{B}: ~ gets +3/+3 until end of turn." What would you do with this if you only have 2 mana leftover?

I would prefer 1/2 with : CARDNAME gets +1/+1 until end of turn. (How do you make a hybrid mana symbol?)

Persist + Expensive pump = flexible and hard to block. Attack with it, get through for 2 damage, then use your mana to cast your spells.

I really think the developers stayed up all night and thought hybrid mana was a drawback...

I owe many wins in DotP 2013 to this guy. He does a lot of heavy lifting before the kill cards are ready to come out, and most players either don't recognize him as a threat or are reluctant to burn removal on him. I hope he's reprinted in Gatecrash so I can use him in booster drafts.
