My WW Equipment Deck needs a great card like this as, the ability to tutor equipment like loxodon warhammer, kaldra cards and Jitte's is great, being able to (for 0 manna) equip it is even better.
a very powerful card in an equipment deck, which is normally not that powerful anyways. you might even use this guy to bring out the Kaldra combo, which would normally be quite overcosted. when you tutor Sunforger it effectively allows you casting any red or white instant spell with cmc 4 or less for , which isn't bad either - imagine the combo potential. Crush Underfoot might be useful if your Stonehewer Giant is already equipped, or simply searching for a Heartseeker and equipping another creature should be an easier way to get rid of it. i'd advise searching Whispersilk Cloak at first to make it harder for your opponent to get rid of him. The great advantage is the fact that his ability still lets you attach tutored equipments to him - but you can't equip any others then, since these are targeted. if you can get a Shield of Kaldra or find a way to regenerate the Giant, and hit your opponent with a Worldslayer equipped you should be able to end the game...although that takes a lot of time and won't work out most often, though.

This card is surprisingly good, lightning greaves can give instant shroud, as well as shield of kaldra for indestructibility. Inside of two turns you can either make the giant or another creature both shrouded and indestructible. Pair up with kor outfitter for an equipment deck.

@Donovan: you really don't need Kor Outfitter since stonehewer attaches the equipment already
Also, it's better to search for General's Kabuto rather than Lightning Greaves with this guy since with the kabuto you can attack with him more confidently than you would with the greaves

Does this card's ability allow to put equipment on a shrouded creature? It doesn't exactly say "target" anywhere on the card. It is kinda inferred, yes, but not actually stated as targeted.
-------------- nvm... shoulda checked the rulings first.

Great not only for equipments decks; it's nice with Whispersilk Cloak : )

Search for any equipment you want for two mana, put it on the field, equip as an instant, and for free? Holy crap I love this guy!
Note: Do not put all of these on one creature unless it gets bonuses for each equipment on it. (Loxodon Punisher)

The flavor of the card goes well with the ability. He'll outfit your army with anything they need, just ask nicely. A friend in need is a friend indeed... but a friend making equipment is a friend making a real dent. -Bad at this kind of stuff- You get the idea. 5 out of 5.

while loxodon punisher is certainly not badly synergized w this guy I'd say loxodon belongs in a deck with lots of cheap equipment cards, whereas this guy is made for Argentum Armor and other expensive equipment cards, put not on guys that get bonuses pr attached but rather with abilities that multiply their effect, ie with stuff like doublestrike, lifelink, infect or awsome abilities where defensive equipment like darksteel plate and lightning greaves come in handy. awsome card, useable in many decks, with 4/4 vigi for 5 mana you dont even need to aim the deck at using him. (ie a couple of swords and an argentum armor and 2 of these could go into any creature deck)
In general i'd probably go w various swords and protection from opponent colors rather than shroud for defense.

The only drawback is you'd typically want to attack with the guy that gets the new equipment, thus not being able to take advantage of his vigilance. Either way, he's still a decent companion to the Kor.
Holy crap, this blows stoneforge mystic out of the water, and that's just insane.

He has vigilance, so you declare your attack with him, then use his ability as a fast effect to equip him before damage is dealt. Such a great ability!!! 5/5

@Mode "but you can't equip any others then, since these are targeted." Actually, his ability doesn't target, so you can equip as many equipment to your shrouded creature as you want.

How would this work with the recent Living Weapons? He brings it into play, technically you then have a 0/0 Germ that you can use with the second part of the ability or will the equipment have to go onto another creature? And would that mean the germ then dies (effects other creatures abilities)?

i played someone and he attack with a kor duelist with this on the field i let it go and he threw on the jitte using stonehewer giving the jitte four charge counters when kor duelist hit me. The next turn he put on a batterskull and perceded to swing for forty six every turn and gain fourty skill life everytime i blocked him with my darksteel myr

An amazing card. You can use it during combat to equip him or another monster with an equipment before damage is declared. Say you swing with this guy: Your opponent can choose to chump block, in which case you tap him and grab a Loxodon Warhammer, block with something bigger, in which case you grab say Shield of Kaldra or Runechanted Pike, or they could let him through, in which case you can grab Worldslayer or Grafted Exoskeleton.
However, my favorite card to equip him with is Umbral Mantle. Assuming you have a lot of mana, you can equip multiple cards from your deck in combat. Equipping just the Mantle and Grafted Exoskeleton is 8 poison, possibly game if you can kick Mantle twice. If they block, equip with both the Shield of Kaldra and the Sword of Kaldra to exile the blocker. The possibilities are endless. 5/5

@ReignBeaux Living weapon is a triggered ability, so it will wait till the giant's ability resolves first, then living weapon will be put on the stack. the way living weapon is worded, no matter what creature stonehewer attached the equipment to, it will end up on the germ token.
On topic: Stonehewer, you are my new love, once i get a copy of you, stone forge, and all the mirrodin swords in one edh deck together, my life will be complete. I actually thought he just attached it to himself. then i read him. now i have been enlightened.

Holy scheisse! And they banned Stoneforge Mystic? This guy is a beatstick on his own with vigilance and that tutor ability, PLUS he attaches it! for only 5CMC?
Outstanding in any deck with equipment, but usually such decks are white weenie decks with low CMC creatures and few lands, so you might get stuck not being able to play him.

I like him better than Stoneforge Mystic for two reasons. 1. It is more fun to play against, no one likes a 3rd turn Batterskull busting there face in 2. Its a freaking giant
This plus Elbrus, The Binding Blade; you sneak in a weenie attacker and pop Elbrus in with the Stonehewer right before damage is dealt. Poof, instant 13/13 demon.
Or you could use a Quietus Spike, strip away 1/2 their life.
Lastly, another great one is slip Sword of Kaldra onto a blocked (or blocking) creature, and send their creature tumbling into oblivion. You could even do this on purpose with a provoke creature.
5/5, so overpowered.

This card might as well say, "If your opponent does not have a removal spell, you win the game". With some sword of x and y this card becomes the clear choice over baneslayer angel.

Very powerful in a deck with Sunforgers. As long as this thing is untapped, there is a Sunforger in your deck, and you have {W}{W}{R}{1} open you can use a Double Negative or similar on any threat your opponent plays, regardless of what you have in your hand.
