It'd be awesome if they printed a sorcery/instant that did her combat effect.

A perfectly solid black beatstick with a cool picture. There isn't a whole lot to say about this, for a 4-drop, it kills a lot of creatures blocked or unblocked. Its just too bad its a legend. To be honest, I expected more from "the Extinguisher".. figured it would be more of a Timmy-esque creature.

I agree with above it's a 4mana 4/4 with a target creature dies effect pretty solid.

The only problem for me is that for all the amazing that the extinguisher is in the books it should be better.

Decent enough beater. the effect will probably never matter. the opponent would be better off just blocking it.

the whole "they'll just block it" thing is fine, because it can probably take it, and if they don't block it because you have something bigger then you can just take out the biggest thing they have and do 4 damage with the same monster.

give it some evasion, like the black standby, fear, or dip into blue for some flying

Sick art, great, solid card for beat-down. Even though the effect probably won't activate too often, forcing your opponent to block it is still quite effective. 4.5/5.

Though not b/r in hybrid, still fits in any b/r decks... purely beatdown...

Considering how all-powerful and legendary she is in the eventide book and how she almost kills sapling of colfenor, she should be more epic, at least have wither, or be black/red (she's a ****ing fire elemental, ppl.)

Also her effect should have something to do with land destruction. Maybe you choose a creature OR land?

This is a good card, But I was kinda hoping the Shadowmoor Ashling was going to be W/R instead of black. I liked her too much from Lorwyn.

Need to be even better?

2b 2 colorless 4/4 creature and this kinda nasty hilarious faculty, not's enought for you?
Equip it with Gorgon Flail and will be one creature down this turn, yes or yes.

Most everyone is talking about how it has to damage opponents life points, but so what? Whispersilk cloak anyone? On turn 3 play the cloak, turn 4 play ashling, turn 5 when you can attack with her equip her with the cloak. If you have mana accel that might be all one turn. I also really like the idea of using gorgon flail, you can use soul's fire on her (yay for fire elemental theme) to kill a creature off with her immediately with the gorgon flail attached, then swing in, either killing or forcing a sacrifice on yet another creature. Shes very awesome for creature removal.

Any creature that can make Progenitus cower in fear must be awesome.

Sadly, this has to target Progenitus for your opponent to sacrifice it. And Progenitus can't be tageted by this card. So protection from black still stops this card. Great removal card though. 5/5 for being able to get rid of every creature Doom Blade can, plus black creatures.

NO YOU CAN NOT MAKE PROGENITUS COWER IN FEAR. NO. This word uses the keyword "target", Progenitus has protection from everything meaning you can't make them sacrifice it.

For most constructed formats, this card is solid, but not amazing. The exception being block constructed.

This + Whispersilk Cloak = 4 damage per turn + creature kill. Definitely going into my UB aggro deck.

Throw Fire Whip on her and you basically have a 4/4 Tim with sacrificial offerings to her.

★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (1 vote)
@Rudyolph: You can't activate her ability by giving her pinging abilities, seeing as how she has to deal combat damage.

Whispersilk Cloak will do the trick though.

Nice with Thraximundar.
The only reason I play her in my deck.
As a foil.

well, doesn't look or act at all like the destroyer in the book (plus she got really mad when they called her the extinguisher). But its still a good card. I would think the destroyer would be more like novablast wurm, maybe with a sudo Armageddon tacked on.

Son of a gun, this is AWESOME!!!! At worst, it's a 4/4 for 4 in black, which has pretty inefficient creatures (unless they have a huge drawback). But this is just insane!!! You get massive card advantage when she gets through, which isn't very hard to do in black, the color of Go for the Throat and such. But what really trips me out is that she wasn't played! Yeah, faeries and Jund did steal the thunder a bit, but still, it never saw any! I mean, sure, it's not incredibly overpowered, and I'm not gonna whine about powercreep, but it is a total bomb, and exactly what embodies a rare--either big and splashy, or really niche.

4.5/5

This not having a casting cost of 4(B/R)(B/R) to match, you know, EVERY OTHER tribe leader legend in Shadowmoor is perhaps the greatest tragedy to ever occur in MTG history. I'm tempted to paint the mana symbols at the top so I can finally have the Flamekin/Cinder themed EDH deck I've dreamed of forever.

Hi everyone. If you put Fire of Power onto Ashling, the Extinguisher and you tapped it to deal one damage to target player. Would it still cause a player to sacrifice a creature. It came up in a game I was playing recently, and I got told that the player would only sacrifice a creature when Ashling deals combat damage as it states on his card. I was told that tapping the card and using the power of Fire ability to deal one damage to target player isn't dealing combat damge and as such doesn't cause the targeted player to sacrifice a card? Could someone please clarify this for me? thanks :)

@MattyDrac

Damage from abilities such as "Deal 1 damage to target creature or player" is not combat damage and will not trigger this ability. Combat damage is damage done by creature combat. This ability only triggers if Ashling attacks the opponent and deals any damage. Unfortunately Power of Fire, while thematically related to Ashling the Extinguisher, doesn't work for the purpose of triggering her ability.

As stated elsewhere in the comment thread Whispersilk Cloak will make her unblockable, allowing her to deal direct combat damage.

Also, this won't kill Progenitus because it has to target him.

Pump this up so your opponent has to block it to avoid surgical strikes on his creatures. Maybe Sword of Vengeance?

The legend rule isn't really a problem since this card demands answering.

A lot of people seem to be ignoring the fact that she does not destroy creatures, she makes your opponent sacrifice them. That's a big distinction. She will remove indestructible creatures, and they cannot be regenerated. Sadly she does target still, so shroud and hexproof get annoying.

Even still, she is an amazing general for EDH. She is cheap (By general standards.) and mana-efficient, begging for equipment. (I run her with a full complement of swords, a whispersilk cloak and Basilisk Collar) Plus, that art alone is a reason to play her, maybe my favorite art on a black creature. I also run a glaring spotlight in the deck now, and with that out, shroud is basically the only way to keep her from killing your general.

Being able to pick off any creature, no matter how big, regenerate-y or indestructable, is great. Man... the word "target" is still there, though. If only it just said "pick a creature that player controls." That would be rad!

Gets past indestructible, holy shit.

Give her any evasion and go to town.
