Ummm this makes my 5 color elemental deck just awesome now. This was the card to total make it solid and tied it togeather. Now a few more good Elemental Tribal Spells and it'll be a done deck. :)

If anything could justify the nightmare of getting five colors of mana simultaneously, this is it. Hits the field hot, stomps on everything, defends at the same time, and once it's actually set up, 5 mana to revive anything isn't so bad. Vigilance and Trample on the same card is just... Ow. Pretty weird name and spookycool concept too.
it's ALOT easier to target yourself with a discard effect than get a WUBRG mana, even if you say that haakon is vulnerable to exile, I don't see any shroud on horde...and destroy is merely an inconvenience to haakon but a fatality to the horde of notions...

You don't have to pay Shriekmaw's evoke cost to have it do what Donovan_Fabian said. Go back and reread what Shriekmaw says. It says "When Shriekmaw enters the battlefield" not "When you pay Shriekmaw's evoke cost."

I also had a question about this, I'll also ask this in the Rules Q & A since I couldn't find the answer on there at the moment. But I also would like to know if you can play Horde's abillity to put an elemental into play as an instant or whether it has to be whenever you 'can' play a creature. It's a bit unclear about that on the card and there isn't anything listed about it on the rules part of the page for the card.

@ Jessvsm: Since a creature ability can be used as an instant, unless otherwise stated, and the hordes is not stated, you are able to bring a creature back in the middle of battle if you so choose.

Though you can't pay alternative costs for Elementals you cast from the graveyard, you can pay additional costs. Hello, Thicket Elemental and Wolfbriar Elemental.
Even you don't have other elementals, making the last ability is useless, it's still a very solid 5/5 with 3 good abilities for 5 CMC.

A awesome EDH general. Combine it with cards like Conspiracy and big baddies and you basically destroy everything. Not to mention you have access to every color and the awesome elemental creatures. Just an all around great card.
