One of the better Nephilims, in my eyes.

LOL...does anyone know what a nephilim is? I researched it once. I think it's like a biblical monster.

Following the pattern of the sets, they're probably going to make an enemy tricolor set again (Like Vorosh) and then eventually make a 4-color multicolor set, with cards with the same mana cost as the nephilims.

The weird little face on its head reminds me of Noh-Face from Spirited Away.

Good for EDH if your group approves of using Nephilim as Generals (I've read its done occasionally). Scary cool flavor and a strong card besides. Really good with buyback cards. Blue and Black means you get insane card draw. Card Draw is really what matters with this guy, so you can draw into extra spells. A "Spirit" deck would be nice too (see: Kamigawa), as there are lots of rewards for playing Spirit spells and he has all the best colors for spirits.

Fate Transfer works nicely in case he gets killed.

He should be Errata'd be a legend in my opinion, for both flavor and functionality as an EDH general. We need a 4 colored EDH general!

The best Nephilim for me, but how come a witch-chewer is not red?... w/e, this reminds me of an Arcbound Ravager, just make one of those ARB block decks with an Ancient Ziggurat and get this thing on it.
(Seriously, why not red?)

Nephilim are the bastard offspring of angels and humans from the bible. I think magic was representing them as mirror images of what they should cost, so this is technically the "red" one. Think about how Ink-Treader Nephilim has no black in it, yet goes perfectly in black resurrection decks.

Dude... 4/5 stars just for the illustration alone.

Looks like something taken out of Spirited Away. Definitely an amazing art nevertheless.
Awesome synergy with the Retrace & Rebound mechanics.

the niphilims were creatures from the Ravnica books. they were worshiped by the Gruul (the BR guild), until they realised they could kill them, i honestly dont know why the strongest one is a 3/3 though, in the books it took there guild master and an entire raiding party to kill it. so i would just have made them like 8/8 brutes, as they never really had any magic like abilities.

"I pay four mana of four different colors that took me like 6 turns for me to get, to play Witch-Maw! HAHAHA COWER IN FEAR GREEN!"
"Tap 1, Hornet Sting... it's dead."
"...why is that even in your deck?"

A Freudian analysis of Magic wouldn't be complete without dozens of pages on this card.

Dude, do copied spells count too? If so, I highly underestimated the use of this beast. My deck is land drop, discard, and mainly kill with swarm due to 4 Yore-Tillers and 3 Dune-Broods, while Ink-Treaders buff them all and make them unblockables with shroud.

This card is loads of fun, especially when the spells you cast to trigger his ability also have Proliferate. ;D

What's so not red? Something that feeds on spellcraft alone, and can end up rivalling a Leviathan is so not red.

The biggest problem with the Nephilim was that they were afraid of undercosting them and ended up with the exact opposite problem. The color allegiance wasn't too well thought out either - this one feels Green more than anything else, to be honest. But that art...

@ Arachibutyrophobia

The Nephilim where half human half angels. Combine with their power and human nature they where described as Giants among men. Slaughtering both men and other Nephilim. They where considered to dangerous by god, so god sent down the angels to slaughter them all in the form of the great flood.

@blindthrall
I always thought the nephilims are best represented by the first color you see. So, this guy is green (+1/+1 counters and trample), the reanimate nephilim is white, the nephilim that redirects is red, etc

Part 5/5

For the three colors most awesome at Library Stuffs: {B}{U}{G} AND the three colors most awesome at Life Point Stuffs {B}{W}{G}, it's not so much that this Nephilim's abilities are 'out of color' (they're actually more in line than Yore-Tiller's, since it may AT first not seem very Black, but being such an Aggressive Attacker feels pretty Vorosh-y- it wouldn't be nearly this un-peaceful if it were straight Bant!....or at least it would have either or both of Wings and Sword.)

But, still, this Nephilim is not playing to it's best Strengths as much as it could. I like that it gets itself to care about and change it's Power a lot, (it's got a bit of Simic going on with those +1/+1 counters), but I still think it should somehow mention cards, or life.

I suggested on Yore-Tiller Nephilim that the ability should be tweaked from a Graveyard based one to an Exile based one, and that DEFINITELY reads much cleaner to me as actually being pretty darn good flavor for the Color Alignment. At least as good as Dune-Brood, I'd say, who I'd stake the claim was the most Flavorful of the original Nephilim, unless it tied with Ink-Treader.

Glint-Eye pulls it's weight. It's not the most flavorful or the least. It makes more sense to me than Yore-Treader and Witch-Maw as-written, in fact....I'd bet it's mechanics make the most sense to most people at first glance. This one and Dune-Brood probably tie for grokkability.

but Yore-Treader and Witch-Maw have a lot more potential to be better. Dune-Brood is very close to not needing anything functional changes beyond just getting "Pushed" (see the difference between Ghost Council of Orzhova and Obzedat, the Ghost Council)

Please don't react to one Nephilim comment of mine unless you've read at least 2 of them.
