it's some fun with Donate or Confusion in the Ranks, but without a combo i couldn't think of a very good use for this guy, or his big brother Grid Monitor.

Solid guy for a deck that doesn't want to play many creatures anyway. Acknowleding that 3/3 creatures for CMC 3 are the usual thing today (at least in green), he would probably have some juicier stats if this hefty drawback would be printed on a card again. Play with Aether Vial to offset the drawback.

For something called Steel Golem, this thing looks pretty damn stupid.

First of since he is colorless paying 3 for a 3/3 is even a good deal, 3/4 is all the better.

Of course he has a huge drawback so in most cases it isn't worth playing.

If I was to use him I would use him in a blue/white deck with donate and pacifism.

Could be a very good 3 drop beater in an viscous token deck. Although for his stats I prefer to use Phyrexian Ironfoot

I'm thinking Bazaar Trader might be fun ...

the fact that this has a 2/5 rating shows how many bad players there are out there.

Hey, this guy performed very solidly in nigh-creatureless control decks.

I love how the newer magic players don't understand the concept of a drawback. You have to realize that back in Weatherlights, 3/4 for 3 was freaking huge and you were actually able to play decks with less than 20++ creatures in it.

By the way: His hand is just showing you that you're about to get knocked for 3(!) in your face.

While some people don't understand why this was good back in the day, some of you also don't understand most people see it with modern eyes, so a 2/5 rating isn't that wrong. It's actually better, but not by a lot considering modern creatures.

He doesn't die to Lightning Bolt or Terror, and you can play him on turn one with Mishra's Workshop.

Super solid. 4/5

Besides, you're artifacts, cheat your other guys in.

Answer to flavour: Phyrexian obliterator ("blessed perfection").

The fact that he thinks that face is perfection further proves how much of an idiot Dagsson is.

I could see this being a good choice to birthing pod away.

Excellent, if he's the only creature in your deck.

Another interesting way to play this is with Endless Whispers, just let it die and forbid your opponent to play creature spells... and then play with a bunch of Tokens ;)

I prefer Grid Monitor.

He can be abused with switcheroo, along with other cards. If this were printed today, I think it would be a little bit stronger, a 4/4 body and possibly another ability. Then again, if your trying to Donate it, you don't want it to be strong!!

T2: Bazaar Trader.
T3: This, followed by tapping the trader.

Wait for an opponent to play one of their biggest creatures. Then play this and Switcheroo and enjoy the look on their face.

Nice art. Pretty sure he was of the few cards on the cover of Weatherlight boosters.

Zedruu the Greathearted.
This guy follows the old adage: "If a card's best synergy is with Donate, it's a bad card." Donate this guy, watch the creature deck cry.

Nowadays, with the removal of mana burn, Cathodion is usually a better choice, but I can see why people used this in the past.
