a plane-shifted version of Giant Growth, sweet. red used to have a bunch of similar spells like this before, though in most cases it only boosted the creature's power.

I wish they'd reprint this in 2011, or some red instant buff that was actually decent (I'm looking at you,Bull Rush). I'm sure it'd be unconventional to have this and Giant Growth in the same set... but it could be interesting.
Oh god. In Worldwake they printed Bull Rush instead of reprinting this. They even had a theme deck named "Brute Force".
I dislike you, Wizards! :C

One of my favorite cards from Planar Chaos (Damnation comes to mind). Fantastic synergy with Kiln Fiend, and a nice card to have when you want to save your creatures from Earthquake or Pyroclasm (yours or your opponents').
Also fits nicely into most Goblin decks if you're having troubles with your opponents' fatties.

Sorry, but you're wrong. Once the defending player is done declairing blockers (and declairing no blockers counts as declairing blockers), both players get to play instants befor combat damage is dealt.

it doesn't make much sense because it isn't supposed to. plainer chaos is an insane set because it has many cards exactly like another one except in all the wrong colors. there are many cards that don't make much sense like a red wall that Unsummons creatures or a blue destroy spell.

This is one of the reasons you HAVE to love Red. Take that, Green!
It's not perfect, however. In a red deck, I'd rather have firebreathing.

With the way red has plenty of first strike/double strike creatures, this is definitely better in red than in green, since making a vanilla big creature bigger isn't all that exciting.
The key thing that makes this card great is that it increases toughness, a point where red tends to lack in a lot of cases. Also, it's nice to be able to save your creature from a bolt and then hit the opposing player for a nice extra three damage for his cheek.
The only problem is that Lightning bolt is the better card, just like how lightning bolt is better than giant growth. If you're running 4 lightning bolts, than it's alright to add this to your deck, but if you're running less, it's almost always better to just add another bolt.

Of all the "planeshifted" cards from Planar Chaos, this one has got to be the most damaging. Most people understand that green is not supposed to have flying, or blue is not supposed to have discard... but combat tricks? Every color has combat tricks. It's hard to focus on what makes this card come from an alternate reality, which is that this card is just a more powerful version of a combat trick for Red... you know... equal to Giant Growth, which is generally the best combat trick of any set it is printed in.
As players, power level is our blind spot. Many of us desire things to be better than they are, so they can go in our deck. We don't play with Red's combat tricks very often, because Red's removal is generally better. The tricks are printed as either a surprise, or as an interesting choice for limited. This card, though, can be arguably better than Lightning Bolt in some decks. It makes every other combat trick in Red look bad. It makes a bunch of players desire red to have combat tricks as good as green.
This wouldn't be a terrible problem... one color getting to do something about as well as the other colors spontaneously. The color pie gets moved around all the time. But, could you imagine if Planar Chaos did this to all the colors... giving them options that were just as good as good staples in normal standard? If Scryb Sprites returned, people would argue for green to having flying at cheaper costs... since they already did it with Scryb Sprites. If blue got a Mind Rot in Planar Chaos, people would start talking about how Blue should get better discard. What if White got Gravedigger?
The reason why my previous examples would have been bad choices for Planar Chaos is that they are very clean cards with exact ana1ogues to cards who do the job as well as them and are commonly played. Making Drudge Skeleton White or Master Decoy Black for a set isn't a big deal, since Drudge Skeleton and Master Decoy were never 5 star cards anyway. If Black got a Lightning Bolt, though, people would salivate for black to have more, since that card would be incredibly good. It's the same case with Brute Force. People only argue for Red to have P/T pumping this good because it happened once... and they aren't satisfied with the notion that it will never happen again.

This card is definitely above curve for red, but Bull Rush is just as definitely below curve. A red equivalent to giant growth should be more like "target attacking creature gets +3/+0 until end of turn." That gives you zero defensive options, it makes the card a slightly worse corollary to Lightning Bolt, but with the option to benefit from double strike, which red has some access to.

i've changed a lot as a player since i wrote a comment on this last.
old comment -
anyway, i've learned the rules of the game (yay) and realised that combat tricks just aren't good in general.
dead draws with no creatures, and the extra damage you can cause to a player is often underwhelming as they have to be letting you hit them anyway, better to just be using burn.
often it can be card disadvantage as in response to you using this they can kill the creature, which is always pretty bad
the only deck i have with instant speed pumping now is my infect deck, purely because the card advantage and you get killing something with rot wolf is very nice and often worth these downsides.
anyway, pretty poor card, good in drafting as is every trick and just by not being green doesn't make a bad card good.
2.5/5 for surprise value alone.

This card is great, the players that don't appreciate it aren't. Hard to understand the retarded logic of some MtG players; a giant growth for red, how this ends up being a bad thing? wouldn't have a clue.
If you dont like it dont feild it, simple. the timespiral block has some amazing cards, its refreshing and has some great theme, you must realise, regardless of what you may belive that there are people in MtG who spend as much time/effort and money into it, that appreciate when wizards makes cards like this.
5/5 imo.

Well, WotC could have give green more creatures with First Strike instead.
I like this card more than Giant Growth, because it's surprising and red has a focus on instantaneous effects.
Green on the other hand, should have more "unsurprising", but steady things. +1/+1 counters or an aura similar to Volcanic Strength would fit better, especially in Limited tournaments.
