Personally i see it as the best hit ever, i carry 4 in my goblin storm deck it always is a game winner. sorcery speed is the only draw back. puts scattershot to shame from scourge too.

Edited scourge card name wrong one

Relentless rats after a good thruming stone on turn four and this is a huge mill

Turn one land, turn two land, turn three land, Seething song, thruming stone, turn four drop a Demon's Horn, turn five relentless rats and thurmingstone trigger for at least 20 rats and throw with the two mana untaped Grapeshot and gain 20 life first.

Krark-clan Ironworks or Ashnod's Altar with a pair of Myr Retrievers makes an infinite spell loop that will make this card a winner.

Pretty cool feature of storm cards: they're pretty much immune to counterspells, since the counter can only target one copy of the spell.

@SerenChaos: If your first spell is a Grapeshot and then you Twincast it, the first grapeshot triggers, then twincast's copied grapeshot triggers, and that copy triggers two more copies because of storm as the first grapeshot and twincast had been played. This gives you a total of four grapeshots. Same for Pyromancer Ascension.

It gets more complicated if you twincast a grapeshot with a Pyromancer Ascension out on the field with its two quest counters. In that instance, we have the first Grapeshot (lets name this G1), which is copied by the Pyromancer Ascension, which triggers a copy of Grapeshot (G2). If you twincast G1, Pyromancer Ascension actually gives you two twincasts now (let's say T1 and T2). Technically the second would resolve first. So T2 gives you G3, and its storm ability triggers twice because of G1 and T1 (this gives you G4 and G5). Then Twincast 1 resolves, and T1 gives you G6, which notices that you already played G1, T1, and T2, so its storm ability triggers 3 times and gives you G7, G8, and G9. So 9 grapeshots.

Note that the copies do not trigger storm themselves because they are not technically played, similarly to how copies do not trigger replicate.

@Sarroth: Acutally, copies made from Pyromancer Ascension and Twincast are just put onto the stack, just like the copies from storm.

And on another note, Eye of the Storm (using rituals to fuel it out early) is probably the most fun (and most risky) way to win with this card :P

@ SereneChaos:

Not much. If you read the rules for Storm, the ability triggers when you cast the card with Storm. There's a big distinction between casting a spell and putting a copy of a spell onto the stack. Copies created by Pyromancer Ascension and Twincast will not trigger their Storms at all.

What you really want to do is Remand your Storm card, and then cast it again. Double Storm plus 2.

You think at just 1 damage per spell, this would definitely be safe to print? Wrong, Wizards!

My favorite combo with this is Gemstone Array, Grinning Ingus, Heartless Summoning, and this: I get infinite storm by playing the Ingus for Red, paying Red to return it, adding 2Red to my mana pool. I use the array to convert the colorless to Red, and repeat for infinite storm

Anyone who under-rates this has never been hit by an absurd number of grapeshot before.

Seeing as it's a sorcery, I'm inclined to disagree.

Storm is the ultimate 'win more' tactic: if you play a bunch of spells, then you get a bunch of free spells on top! Disgusting with Cascade and Affinity.
In fact, someone needs to go out right now and figure out 'Affinity-Cascade-Storm'.dec'

Seems like I was under-rated before. :/ I mean, low-cost artifacts count toward a storm count you know...and Affinity is not bad at playing more than one spell a turn. eh, whatevs.

Since we already see that Storm Decks will always use whatever mana ramp and card draw to play whatever they want, then I actually don't see it as unreasonable to suggest a card that does

"Lightning Bolt + Storm"

Make it cost as much as Dragonstorm if you think that's too insane. I've seen Storm deck lists, and it really looks to me like it doesn't matter if your kill spell deals 1 original damage or 200 original damage. The Storm keyword will take care of the difference between what the card does and your opponents' life points, so why not make a really huge, really epic Mythic Rare Storm effect besides Dragonstorm and Mind's Desire? Goblin Warrens and Grapeshot win, sure, but for win-con cards their name, art, and flavortext are not Mythic enough for me. How about a milling Storm card? =D

@ DarthParallax: you mean Brain Freeze? =D
Anyways, this card is an epic finisher. Hit an infinite combo, then zap everything and everyone. Because you can.

Step one: have Heartless summoning out.
Step two: get a couple of Myr Retrievers.
Step three: cast this baby after looping with your Myrs.

Insta-win, can happend as soon as turn 3! :3

Kiln Fiend and other similar cards that trigger on casting a spell don't trigger on Storm copies, only the actual storm card you cast.

This is why Storm cards don't create infinite loops when you play one:

706.10. To copy a spell or activated ability means to put a copy of it onto the stack; a copy of a spell isn’t cast and a copy of an activated ability isn’t activated. A copy of a spell or ability copies both the characteristics of the spell or ability and all decisions made for it, including modes, targets, the value of X, and additional or alternative costs.

If the copies were counted as being cast, it would look like this:

1. Play a spell

2. Play a Storm card

3. The Storm card creates a copy of itself because you played a card before it this turn.

3a. This copy gains all characteristics of the Storm card, including the Storm rules text.

4. If the copy was counted as being cast, its Storm ability would trigger on the first spell cast as well as the original Storm spell, creating two copies of itself, which would then continue to create more copies into infinity.

The reason this doesn't happen is because the Storm mechanic reads "When you cast this spell..."

Storm copies are never casted, therefore their Storms never trigger. They are, however, still counted as spells, which is why you can shut down a Storm combo with Mindbreak Trap.

Hope that provided some clarification for these cards.

You can't (most of the time) be respond by another one cause it's a sorcery and why is this not instant by the way ???

@ DarthParallax
There already is a miller: Brain Freeze.
And the thing is making splashy big storm things is that while they have the same effect with say 20 storm count they have a lower "lethality" requirement for storm. Grapeshot requires nineteen spells prior this turn. Lightning storm would only need six. That is less than half, making the cards fill entirely different roles. Lightning storm at six cmc or something would not have a dedicated deck, it would be a finisher when the spell count hits that magical number. Grapeshot.dec is a thing. Also, ignite memories is a pretty nice splash storm spell. It usually hits for fatal at 5+ storm count (as by turn five their weenies and lands are on the field). Not super reliable though, I take your point.

Commenting only due to the reprint in Modern Masters.

This is a card that for me, invokes some thoughts. It has twice the CMC as Lightning Bolt (and Chain Lightning), yet does a third of the damage. Right off, that a sixth of the usefulness. It's the storm that makes it.
But it only costs two mana! And it only does 1 damage!
....and red mana acceleration exits... and other storm cards exist... and what if you copied it!?

I think the biggest danger with this is your opponent responding to it with another Grapeshot. They get your storm count +1, and it resolves before you!
