what's a dreaver? because this card's name is a compound of win and dreaver, right?

Forgive my noobiness, but can someone explain to me how the rules changes render this card ineffective? Because I'd like to know to what extent this is "ruined" before I buy at least one anyway because it looks so damn cool.

While it's still one of my favorite artworks, due to the new rules changes (which I don't disagree with), I'll probably never play him again. He used to fly in without hesitance or remorse, because nothing could touch him (except counterspells). Now he flies in hesitantly, and probably won't hit as hard. Who will own the skies now that Windreaver has been crippled?

@Zulp: that would probably be better to ask on the forums. I keep my copy because it's amazing artwork. Probably my favorite artwork period. But the reason he used to be amazing is because you could pump his toughness, switch his P/T, swing, and if your opponent blocked, stack the damage, then switch the P/T back, killing your opponent's creature and leaving Windreaver to fight another day. Now he's simply overcosted and underpowered.

On the one hand I like him. On the other...
Giving vigilance for one white mana is weird. Normaly you'd expect abilities that can be activated multiple times this way to become stronger when activated multiple times. Giving vigilance multiple times makes no sense though, so it's a very weird choice.

And all in all, the M10 rules changes (which were horrible and just a step backwards) completly killed that card. It wasn't that great before M10 either but now it's just garbage. To those wondering why:
Let's say someone attacks you with a 5/5 dragon. You pump this guy up to 1/6 with his +0/+1 ability and switch it's p/t with it's other ability, so it's 6/1. Then you put the combat damage on the stack. The dragons controller assigns 5 to the windreaver, and you assign 6 to the dragon. Before the combat damage resolves you flip the Windreavers p/t again and now it's a 1/6. The dragon dies, beeing dealt 6 damage while having only 5 toughness, the windreaver lives, having been dealt 5 damage while beeing 1/6.

Doesn't work anymore. Man I despise those rule changes. -.- 2/5 stars now.

A good finisher for UW with UW-like abilities.

Can't believe nobody mentioned that this is essentially a multicolored Morphling. You guys are real poopy turds.

Should be creature type "ABOMINATION" because it's a joke-of-a-morphling-reprint.

Actually he is still amazing, just drop a Lance on him and switch his P/T in between Firstrike damage and normal combat damage. Also a Grand Arbiter Augustin IV helps with this guys Mana cost.

@Zorgrath
He's amazing because you're playing Lance? I think you need to rethink that.

This card is crazy cool. He's got quite the upkeep though. You're essentially playing a Chilling Shade (or a Dungeon Shade if you prefer) that is costed higher and more colored just for the ability to bounce itself. He requires that your manabase be almost all dual lands so that you can get the most out of him every turn.

How did Etherium make its way to Ravnica?..

It does indeed bare an interesting resemblance, though i very much doubt it was intentional- great versatility, though the effects themselves are not all that impressive.

Aleksi is a great artist and this is a bad-ass card but if he's one of your favorite artists you should know that he's a dude.

Side by side comparison Morphling has him beat, because of shroud instead of bounce. Also, there are a few times that untap is better than vigilance. On the other hand you don't need to lower his toughness to increase his power. If you have infinite colored mana this guy becomes a shade, and the bounce is handy for dodging global. If you have infinite colored mana there are better ways to use it, but few that are as fun. *Looking at you Fireball.* I still love it, so 4/5
