Can Runes of the Dues make any R/G card good? 3 mana to turn him into an 8/3 Double Striking Trampling madman awesome

I like how it grows exponentially. 2, 4, 8, 16...if you have a ton of mana to burn.

This card would be much more lovable if it just had 2 toughness. Like this it can't do much by itself, you won't have that much from spending three mana for a 4/1 creature that has neither first strike nor trample and can be eaten from any chump blocker. Of course there are cards like the mentioned Runes of the Deus which can make this card appealing, but cards that rely on others aren't too interesting. Well i'm currently exaggerating a bit, but that's because i'm rather disappointed how this card with such an interesting ability turned out...

if its in a goblin deck you could use goblin caves to pump its toughness...
UUD is part of your turn. Why does that matter?
Braid of Fire.
Turn 1 Island, Training Grounds Turn 2 Cascade Bluffs, Braid of Fire
Turn 3 Forest, This
Turn 4 Untap, upkeep, get one red. Pay it on that punk, he's now a 4/1. Forest, Berserk, 8/1, with trample, pay one, 16/1, pay 1, 32/1, pay your last mana, 64/1 with trample. Cool, he's lightning bolted. You only wasted the creature and a berserk. You didn't even need the berserk.

once upon a time, there was a little Feral Animist and an urborg / coffers / mana reflection. The little goblin swung for a mighty 4.39x10^12 damage with the help of a rancor and 64 mana. Then, the opponent cast wing shards.......
