And it doesn't even enter the battlefield tapped!

Combo with Captain Sisay. Tutor 2 legends per turn for the cost of Blue.

If you run a deck that needs blue mana and has even but one Legendary permanent, this card's already better than Island. Even if your deck has cards that need you to have an Island, as you'll likely have enough of those anyway (unless you run 3 or more colors).

Fortify with Darksteel Garrison to pump any creature for +1/+1 for each extra blue mana you wanna spend every turn.

Courtesy explanation: Target itself to untap while fortified, so that when it taps, it gives +1/+1, then it untaps itself thanks to its ability.

Note: You can target it, since the only required property of the target card is that it's a legendary permanent. The target can be tapped or untapped.

@ Neutralion Patron of the Orochi untaps itself b/c the tapping act happens before the ability resolves so that's why they had to put in the "only use this once per turn" thing, so players wouldn't get infinite mana for things like stream of life, blaze, or helix pinnacle.

Relevant cards in play:

1 Tolarian Academy
1 Minamo, School at Water's Edge
1 Candelabra of Tawnos
1 Leyline of Singularity
3 different Artifacts of your choice

- Tap Academy for {U}{U}{U}{U}
- Spend {U} to tap Minamo to untap Academy ({U}{U}{U} floating)
- Spend {U}{U} to tap Candelabra to untap both Academy and Minamo ({U} floating)
- Spend {U} to tap Minamo to untap Candelabra ({0} floating)
- Tap Academy for {U}{U}{U}{U}
- Spend {U}{U} to tap Candelabra to untap Academy and MInamo ({U}{U}) floating)

It should repeat itself here for as much blue mana as you need at this point, if my calculations are correct.

Annoying to set up, but it would be awesome to see it work.

There is absolutely no reason not to play this in a blue Commander deck. NONE WHATSOEVER!

This guy likes to untap Tolarian Academy.

It's also very nice for mana fixing, like in my W/U kamigawa control deck I can untap my legendary white lands to get more white mana ( eiganjo castle & flagstones of trokair ).

Almost strictly better than an Island.

One of my favorite EDH cards. It's just so beautifully simple in its utility. It's a land that does more. Not too much, but enough to make it very useful.

In Modern, this cycle is by far the closest R&D has ever come to developing nonbasic lands strictly better than basic lands. According to Mark Rosewater (http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/mr65), being nonbasic isn't considered a large enough drawback to factor into the "strictly better" discussion -- so, it comes down to whether being legendary is enough of a drawback.

That's highly debatable. If a blue deck has even one tappable legendary permanent it should switch out one Island for one Minamo without a second thought. The first Minamo is strictly better than an Island. It's just a question of the second, third, and fourth Minamos.

Am I the only one seeing this plus any of green's "When enchanted land taps, add one more mana" enchantments? I mean, it's literally a two card infinite mana combo. It can untap itself.

@CuriousThing: Legendary is not a drawback, here.

@Shieldman: Won't work. Those only trigger if the land is tapped for mana; Minamo's untap ability does not produce any mana.

Fun fact: If you put all the Islands in this set together in the right order and put Minamo in there as well in the center, it is a panoramic view of a waterfall.

What is this, like the Elementary School for those wishing to someday attend Tolarian Academy?

In any case, this card is da bomb.

I can't really think of actually wanting to be ''fair'' with this card, but the fairest thing I can come up with doing is giving Nicol Bolas vigilance. :)

A lot of the comments here are about it's utility in commander: I use it in my Vorel of the Hull Clade EDH, where it consistently turns good draws into insane ones by making his ability useful twice a turn. Of course I run other untappers in that deck, but this one stands out because it's free and can give me mana on turns where I need that.

@armogohma: Spire Golem comes to mind. lol.
