This one's pretty fun for a land destruction/mass removal card. As a bonus, it smites pesky planeswalkers!

I still remember getting steamrolled by this card over and over again when I was in highschool. There was this one little kid who had a great deck built around it. After his Cataclysm resolved, regardless of what you had on the table, he pretty much always had a Soltari Visionary (usually wearing Empyrial Armor), a Serra's Sanctum and a Ring of Gix or a Portcullis. There was nothing you could do once things got to that point.
You can always play your guys even if you have only 1 or 2 mana, and wiping the board clear of lands/creatures prevents your opponent from playing any type of deck. It works pretty well.

Wow, guess thats where the came up with the idea to create Raizia's purification. But if your actually trying to wipe the board and actually get your opponent in the bad spot, this is probably the better out of the two
I really love this card .... Armageddon Vs Cataclysm ? ... hmmm ... Cataclysm without doubt !!!, nowadays everyone is prepared for armageddon through the Stax Decks running around ... also bye bye Affinity Decks ...

The Hero's triumph on Cataclysm's Eve wins three symbols of virtue. The Master Sword he retrieves, keeping the Knight's line true.
This card is a winner: you keep your best permanet while eliminating your opponent's resources. Then, cast an Unsummon...
My favourite reset button, even if I always think that this kind of effect should be black. I've never understood why the color of "balance" and "fairness" have an effect such greedy and cruel.
However 4.5/5

It's like a more balanced Balance, yet it's still ridiculous in power level. When you find the right time to resolve either card you will almost certainly win.

This is my favorite white card. Chances are they can't recover. But if they do, chances are really slim that they will recover from another one in three turns. Swords to Plowshares is a nice way to rub salt in the wounds. Persist is pretty great, especially Twilight Shepherd and Juniper Order Ranger to keep the -1/-1 counters off. It just begs you to build around it. In many different ways.

The only planeswalker card in the game that survives this is an animated Gideon Jura. Oh dear God.

Art and flavor text don't fit the mechanics.

Black Market + cataclysm you got mana not your opponents
Oh, remember how I lost all those permanents? Well, now get rid of your artifact, enchantment and Creature. Keep your damn land.
This card is the just the sort board wiping goodness I need for my Zedruu EDH. Keep Propaganda, Windborn Muse, Commander Tower, and Sol Ring.

Absolutely, without question the worst art ever for any "slate cleaner".

Awesome card. I use it in my white weenie deck as the "trump" card.

Okay to everyone who says the art and flavor text don't make sense, it depicts the finality of the battle of the skyship Weatherlite and the Predator flagship. The Weatherlite was victorious over the Predator in a battle over Urborg. It ties into the meaning of Cataclysm which is: a large-scale and violent event in the natural world. It is all part of the magic the gathering story and lore. These cards are more than just pictures and effects.
