Kind of better than Carnophage. A lot better WITH Carnophage.

Very good. It used to be one of teh best black 1 drop.

A good aggro card by itself, even better in an accordant tribal deck, and also a decent Johnny choice - bouncing this card is great fun. Cards like Drake Familiar, Kor Skyfisher or Umbilicus all do a good job with it.

This is a great spell, how often are you not going to have a zombie in play if you're playing a zombie deck?

You're paying one black mana for a 2/2 with a good creature type that will rarely (if ever) deal damage to you. How is this not rated 5/5?

Good, but no 5/5.
It has occurred to me more than once to be stuck with no creature, especially against white or red decks, and have Sarcomancy deal me like 3-4 damage at the wrong moment. Comined with carnophage (essential in a vintage zombie deck) and a few cards to regain life, you start a ticker against yourself. Save space for good zombies with effects, keep good ol' Carnophage for your one-drop zombie, and remplace sarcomancy with Cemetary Reaper to spawn zombies. These spawns cost 1B, but are automatically 3/3. I must admit that having 2 dark rituals, 2 carophage and 2 sarcomancy in your starting hand is intimidating material, but heh, what are the odds?

Misread the card, so now I'm less of a fan.
Could be useful.

This also has the bonus of not being affected by anything that hoses creature spells being played, e.g. Isolation Cell.

Personally, I think I'd rather use the new Diregraf Ghoul. Pretty much the same thing (unless you need to block on their turn) and doesn't have the drawback that this card does.

Back in the day this was commonly used with Carnophage in a Suicide Black deck. Then Dark Confidant came along and speed things up. Now, we have Gravecrawler, Geralf's Messenger, and Bloodghast joining the Black Aggro team. We may see a Zombie deck being viable these days in Legacy, and ol' Carnophage and Sarcomancy may be seeing a come back.

Could use a reprint.

{(w/b)} and {(u/b)} can flicker this. I'd recommend ghostly flicker while doing something else for what is essentially card advantage. Drake Familiar or similar are also good with it.

Better than Diregraf Ghoul or Carnophage because in a deck of all zombies, the only drawback is that it's a token (which is fine, because neither of those are really prime reanimation targets). Worse than Gravecrawler because most things just are. But I play a deck loaded to the brim with zombie lords and Shepherd of Rot, so who says I only want one 1-drop? My ideal play is:
Swamp, 2-power zombie. Swamp, swing for 2, 2-power zombie, 2-power zombie. Swamp, Death Baron, swing for 9, putting you at 9.
I sure would benefit from having all the 1-mana 2-power zombies I can. I'm also curious whether it's viable to build a deck with this and Cloudstone Curio. That and 2 of these reads ": Put a 2/2 black zombie creature token onto the battlefield."

This card is super sick with the newer token boosting cards, especially Leyline of the Meek and Intangible Virtue, both of which give you a 3/3 attacker on turn two, and in the latter case a 3/3 with vigilance.

Use with Phyrexian Negator so when you sac, you sac this and keep the token. Smokestack too

With populate and other token multipliers it's actually better than it's nontoken counterparts. With Parallel Lives this card stays effective throughtout the game.
