this card can bring a great card advantage. unfortunately it's quite expensive considering that you have to take damage in order to work. it would be quite awesome with a low casting cost like for the early game...

At this cost it should let you dagage yourself for some cards, could be a lot cheaper.

Good ability but too expensive. You can draw multiple cards for multiple creatures too I think, but again, too expensive.

if the ability was not "you may" then there would be a very fun win combo where you Donate it to an opponent while you have Underworld Dreams out and then you make them draw a card. They would draw, take damage, then draw again, then take damage, etc.

This is just horrible. At 5 it's not even worth building some cool strategy around. You'll just be disappointed.

In a vacuum, this card sucks. However, I've noted that this card synergizes fairly well with Fumiko the Lowblood. Just block the biggest thing, and whatever gets through gets you some cards. Only really viable in slow formats (like EDH), though.

This card, more than most others, displays the issue with a single rating system - in standard Magic, this is too expensive. In EDH, though, this card is a great demotivator for people doing damage to you. And at 5 mana, it's not too expensive there.

This card inspired me to design a card that randomly draws cards. Check it out the Moonstone: http://birdsofparadise-mtg.blogspot.com/2011/08/some-card-designs.html

Looks like it's showing him New Phyrexia.

In the right deck, this can actually be quite good. For instance, if you have this and Words of Worship out, it's almost impossible to kill you.

Looks like the mask provides him with the infrared vision. Now he just needs a gun that can shoot through walls.

I always thought this was a very good card, so I am surprised to see how lowly it's rated (2.691, at time of writing). How can this be rated so much lower than Mind's Eye? Both are really only good in multiplayer and slower formats; both are sources of repeated card advantage. The only difference is that Mind's Eye is a little more innocuous, so it might be less likely to be blown up. But, then again, Mind's Eye is considered good whereas this isn't, so maybe opponents would be more likely to go after that than this.
For every creature that whacks you, you get a card. How is that not worth in slow formats with gazillions of creatures and plenty of spot-removal for the big, singular threats?
It also might be good against burn decks, depending on how quickly you can get it into play. Since burn typically does 2-3 points of damage, you'll get hit 6-10 times before you die, and that's a lot of card advantage. Pair it with Words of Worship and you basically can't lose the match-up.
It would also devastate weenie decks and token decks that don't overkill. Again, Words of Worship makes the game almost unwinnable for your opponent, possibly WORSE than Story Circle or the appropriate Thing of Protection. And how many cards do you really have to go through until you pull a Wrath of God or a Cataclysm?
Not to mention if your opponent is playing Underworld Dreams or Manabarbs. I hear that paying 1 life for 1 card is a pretty good trade, especially when it's not even your effect that's hurting you and when you'd be taking the damage anyways.
At the very least, no one is going to want to attack you until it's gone. It's not like people will stop drawing cards if you have Mind's Eye. And enough mana to use it. And if they had a way to stop themselves from drawing.

You don't even have to be playing against weenies to make their creatures weenies with stuff like Forcefield or Thunderstaff or Cumber Stone or Urza's Armor or Sphere of Whatever or Equal Treatment or Divine Presence or...
