this + paradox haze on an opponent...for even more fun, throw out a Stoic angel or Hokori, Dust Drinker

Doesn't work well with Paradox Haze, they can just choose the same thing on both upkeeps and don't skip anything extra.

For three mana, this seems kinda broken to me... :/
Although, on the other hand, you can't combine multiple, so it's probably fine as it is ^_^
Wish I had one >_>

She's an extremely vulnerable young lady with a giant, blinking bullseye on her back. Luckily, Whispersilk Cloak was in the same set. She really, really, really, really needs it, because the second your opponent gets ahold of any sort of removal or burn, she's gone.

She's one of my pet cards. She's MAI WAIFU.

I just got two of these in a huge box of Magic I bought this last weekend. SO much old stuff and great stuff. I love Magic!

what a great ability for only 3 mana. I'm not even that upset if she gets bumped off, I've got 4 and she is a cheap date

To all people complaining that (creature of your choice) is vulnerable to removal/is a Doom Blade-Terminate-Wrath of God-Gelectrode-whatever target/has a bullseye on it etc. etc. :

There is a reason that only a few creatures have regenerate/shroud/indestructibility/persist/whatever. Pointing out that a creature whose concept is not combat-oriented is susceptible to removal is like this:

Moreover, sometimes it's good to force your opponent to use whatever removal he/she may have, or to cast that pesky Gatekeeper of Malakir too soon. Thnik outside the box, for a change.

wait uh....so, for just one more mana, you get something that has no business being this close to repeatable Time Walk on a stick?!? the fu--!

obviously it is not the same, but knowing Magic, there is probably a scary combo involving 2 or 3 of these (mix in some clone effects) and some cards that let you force the opponents' choices...

im not saying this is in the same league as Time Walk, but I do think there is a deck out there to make this better than Time Warp. treating this one cautiously until someone proves its not dangerous. its blue. better safe than sorry.

Yes, she is quite susceptible to removal, even shock can kill her, but if they fail to kill her instant speed on your turn they are forced to suffer from her effect. Its like the titans. If the titans were 5/5 and died to dismember, they would still be heavily played because no matter what if they hit the field you are going to get value from them. The same is true for this little girl because no matter what if she survives until the opponents upkeep she is going to screw them over pretty badly. And each additional turn that she survives is another turn you are getting extreme value from her and pulling ahead of your opponent. Also, obviously, she draws removal or counterspells to protect or safely resolve your more important creatures. She seems at least good against aggro. Control decks would just yawn and pick combat phase every time until they get something big out. She seems kind of bad against Combo too. Really, a good player will be able to identify the most important phase for any given turn depending on instant speed spells and board position. However against aggro, they need to draw gas and they need to play dudes and they need to attack with guys, It seems good against them. I feel like one of the biggest thing this card is gonna do for you is give you a significant psychological advantage over the opponent, because they may become overwhelmed if they aren't playing excellently.

I suppose there are some decks that this isn't effective against: Creatureless decks won't mind skipping their combat step, and decks where everything is instant or flash won't mind skipping main. But on the other hand, there are quite a lot more decks that she'll singlehandedly cripple or completely shut down: What the heck is aggro supposed to do against this? Stop drawing more creatures? Draw creatures, but then not be able to cast them? Draw and cast creatures, but then be unable to attack with them?

To say that she's got a bullseye on her isn't condemnation, it's praise: The bullseye isn't because she can be killed, but because she must be. Which is pretty good for 3 mana.

You know you're a Johnny when you want actually good cards to have a drawback just so you can have more fun abusing it.

I honestly wish this applied to yourself as well. Why? So you could feel dirty and clever by abusing it with things like Recycle and Damia, Sage of Stone. I was going to say Necropotence too, but if you don't already feel dirty using that card you're just heartless.

This is nothing close to Time Walk, Parallax. It's one of my favorite cards ever, but it's not that powerful. Aggro decks don't terribly mind skipping their main phase, when they can just take one to throw down all of their low-cost stuff, and control decks don't mind skipping their combat phase at all. They will remove the card before they need to attack, for sure.

When I first opened this card in a pack (one of my first rares ever), I thought that multiples would stack. Now that sure would be good. But alas, Fatespinner will only ever be played for fun. Maybe in the future, a remake will get printed that stacks with each other. All they need to do to balance it is pick another phase or two to pick from (upkeep, untap?).

Its so enjoyable when I cast this spell: my opponents know and hate it well. And when they destroy/exile it, I just play my second one. They ought to reprint it so that more people can enjoy it's deviousness.

Giving opponent choice is never good. Just trying to think of uses for her, but whatever you do with Fatespinner, you have to think about at least 2 things:

1. What phase is least important for you?
2. What phase is least important for the opponent (i.e. the least number of times)?

1. Probably combat phase. So you win with something other than creature damage, like milling.

2. Will vary, but when an army of creatures is in place, it's either draw phase or main phase. When he runs flash and a lot of interrupts, it's definitely main phase.

So find some way to really make that phase more important for opponent. Opponent will only want maybe a couple of more creatures out and just combat and draw for a number of turns. Possibly just using upkeep phase to play stuff like Giant Growth. So he'll skip main phase at times to be able to draw more> no spells or lands played. So you bounce stuff back during combat, like with Capsize, and it stays in his hand. Evacuate is even worse...you just play it during combat and play the Spinner next turn.

And what if he skips draw phase instead to play spells? Play Howling Mines. You draw 2, opponent draws 0. He will dry up if you run enough cards that neutralize creatures.

And weaken his (now) more important phases. You could play Arcane Laboratory or Power Sinks to do this. Whenever he does use the phase, he cannot take full advantage of it. Particularly annoying for weenies.

It was more annoying in MTGO. When you had to choose which phase to skip it wouldn't let you pick but it would still want you to. You would lose to timing out.

Draw go wouldn't be effect that much.
Creatureless would be safe.
Would slow aggro down.

Fun in table top magic for sure :D

Very interesting and cool ability. I can't remember any cards doing anything similar on top of my head.
