I'll just routinely play my 8th land for the turn.

(Next turn draws this)

Dies to a Bronze Stable.

Compare Warped Physique. This is more splashable, but also more expensive and can only be used as a power reducer/kill spell.

I'm sorry, you missed Kamigawa by about a decade. You can get another flavor set in though!

"Hi, everyone, I'm Ashiok. Remember me? I was totally going to be huge! Elspeth and Ajani are fighting Xenagos, Kiora has her spat with Thassa, and me? Well, I exploded some random guy's brain pan! How awesome is that, huh? Well, see you in the Blind Eternities!"

Ashiok - Maybe s/he sparked with it. Maybe it's Maybelline

I like how Ashiok's role on theros has been expanded greatly upon (unlike Sorin's in Innestrad) For example, his deal with Phenax for an invisibility cloak capable of protecting him from the scrutiny of the gods. He used that cloak to attempt to form a new god (like Xenagos did), even though he ultimately failed. However, he discovered the secret to creating the gods in the process, and it's hinted at that he will either bring this knowledge with him to another plane (that doesn't currently have any gods) or stay on Theros for a while trying to continue doing it. (maybe this time Ephara won't stop him as early).

We can all disagree on details and such, but I think it's pretty much confirmed that Ashiok's a badass.

Removal in Journey into Nyx is pretty inconsistent and situational. This is one of the few that can kill a creature "efficiently".

Look at all of the removal in Journey:

- Deicide/Other Enchantment Removal/Feast of Dreams: Only targets certain creatures.
- Dictate of Erebos: You don't choose what they sacrifice.
- Extinguish all Hope/Nyx Infusion: Similar to Deicide, but in the reverse manner.
- King Macar: Once he gets going, he's a free Gild. It's hard to get him started, though.
- Magma Spray: Good early game, but once you're facing 3/3s and 4/4s, you need something else to help kill it.
- Pharika's Chosen: Needs to block. Unless you give it flash, they'll see it coming from a mile away (which can be useful, but not for removal purposes).
- Reprisal: Pretty efficient and is better when dealing with big creatures than End, but doesn't take care of smaller utility creatures.
- Quarry Colossus: Doesn't remove it (though burying it can be better). Also costs 5WhiteWhite and is reliant on mono white or two-colours to be effective.
- Riddle of Lightning: Why not just flip a freakin' coin?
- Silence the Believers: Woah! Actually good removal! It's just hard to get since it's a rare.
- Spiteful Blow: Not bad at all. Just a little slow and costly.
- Starfall: Was Punish the Enemy so broken?
- Banishing Light: Actually effective, few drawbacks. I'd go as far to say it's better than this.

Upon looking through the whole set, there are a few better options, but not many. Most of them has some kind of "fine print" you have to read before you can kill a creature.
