For more references to King Midas, see the Commander 2013 (and presumably some later versions) of Greed.

I'm gonna use this on my own creature, then when they give me a look like im stupid, i will take it back and say:
"You thought i would actually do that? i was just horse-ing around."

Feels almost Orzhov, doesn't it? I can see why that suspiciously lifelike nugget would be redeemable only at Syndicate businesses...

Devon Rule used gold tokens in his submission to the GDS2, which seemed to go over well with the judges. They worked similarly to this. Coincidence, or forward synergy with the next set?

I think this is good because "EXILE TARGET CREATURE."
Kills gods. Kills everything else. Gives free mana.
Good guy Gild.

Just when I thought Wizards runs out of one-word card names.

Nice flavor but pales in comparison with Sever the Bloodline. Should have been instant imho.

Almost looks like an limited focuses uncommon because it's so weak.
Indestructible Gods will be the only reason this could see play outside of limited.

Now this is how Wizards should be designing cards: fair, flavorful, and fun to play.

Clay sounds like an extremely impractical material to make coins out of. Coins weren't only made of gold because it's valuable, but also because it's extremely durable, since it's tough, flexible and resistant to corrosion. In comparison, clay is extremely fragile, easily shattered when dropped on the floor, which would mean that the physical destruction of currency would be very easy. And even if they couldn't make coins out of gold, they could at least make it out of silver or bronze or some other metal.

On the other hand, I always love it when Black gets Exile effects. Since it's supposed to be the best colour at getting rid of creatures.

Love the mechanic and flavor.

That gold is freaking gold, haha.
Immediately cast something else for 1 mana, or ramp things up on your next turn. Or even just keep the gold because you have other plans (Metalcraft, Affinity), or simply because you're just plain greedy.

I originally expected us to get noncreature tokens much sooner (not counting Prototype Portal, since it doesn't come with specific tokens in boosters).

It's black, it's splashable, and it gets rid of almost anything. Oh, it also gives you a little mana to boot. Folks, this card is pure gold. (Pun intended)

Is this what would have happened if Fluttershy was outstared by the cockatrice?

I feel this card is under appreciated with the rating currently. This is a removal spell that when teamed with Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas can give you a 5/5 and exile an opponents monster as well if you're packing four and use tezzerets ult can deal 8 extra damage.

"In comparison, clay is extremely fragile, easily shattered when dropped on the floor, which would mean that the physical destruction of currency would be very easy."

And where does it go when it's destroyed? Into the Underworld, of course, where the merchants cackle with glee.

But Wizards, which Guild are we talking about?

I see lots of comments about Orzhov, but you can't fool me: Orzhov isn't from Theros!

But seriously, it's a great piece of removal. I'm happy they made a new card with just a one-syllable name. I wouldn't be surprised if you called it "Cruel Transmute" or something like that.

PS. I know the difference between Guild and Gild! Please don't hurt me!

When I drafted for the first time on this set, I found in my booster the "Gold" token, and i was like "the hell with this?"

When they spoiled gold tokens I thought it would be like an enchantment that says

"when ever this creature deals damage to a creature, exile it, put a gold token on the battle field."

you know, like Mida's touch or whatever? Anyway, good card, but a bit disappointed. Though I will agree this card would fit into a Orzhov deck flavor wise

EDIT: Yay my dream came true in Journey into Nyx

This is black's version of Deicide. It's conditional that the god becomes a creature, but 4CMC to blow up a god and get a lotus petal in return is a great play in certain circumstances.

Otherwise, this card is too expensive and inflexible. King Macar the Gold Cursed performs this function in a superior manner.

I don't get why this is black. It's exile removal, isn't that white? Also, Aurification is one of the only cards that mentions gold stuff on the field, and that's also white.
