What is awful about this? Is it worse than thunder strike? Is it worse than kindled fury?

I honestly don't see why this is rated at 1.5 stars. At common status, this is actually quite good as a combat trick that will 99% of the time kill whatever is blocking. First Strike combat tricks are underrated in my opinion.
I'll be honest though, I'd rather run Puncture Blasts in my deck than this. Pretty much serves the same purpose as this card and can hit players.

Pros -Its a combat trick -Its splashable -It beefs power and gives first strike
Cons -It costs {2}{R} (Which is balanced and fine for a common) -Valnerable to creature nukes and counters -Can only kill a creature if your in the power range of 3.
Why is this rated so low? Its good for what it does, ensuring that your creature lives and theirs dies. Its a solid 3.5/5 for shure.

Please don't mock this card.
Cause even the Grave Titan can get sent to the grave because of this card.
m13- Murderous Attack {3}{R} Instant Target creature gets +4/+0 and gains first strike until end of turn.
See? I can designs magic cards. It's easy! You can too!

@Kryptnyt: That would make sense. But in M14...
Overkill {4}{R} Instant Target creature gets +5/+0 and gains first strike until end of turn.
It would be quite overkill, but it seems awesome to me...

I once gave this to my opponent's Bladewing the Risen, then used Rival's Duel to bump his head together with Akroma, Angel of Fury that my opponent also controlled. Both were tapped the time I cast those spells and my opponent was quite taken with a surprise. It almost felt like a creature control in a red way.

This is deceiving.
How many times has this card been used as a 3-cost kill spell?
Almost every time.
Even outside of limited, cards like this are always troublesome. See the newly created Swift Justice, and ask whoever you know who has drafted Return to Ravnica, and let them tell you what an annoyance First Strike instants are.
