Aside from clearly being overcosted, what on earth is this card doing in red? Nowadays I think this would be half the cost and white.

first strike is of course also part of red's color pie, though defensive cards like that are normally not part of the red flavour.
for me it's always regrettable if cards with generic names are weak.
and, as you said, for such a specific effect, this card is strongly overcosted. the colorless mana cost could have been left out completely.
i could imagine a hybrid card for half the cost that gives creatures you control - blocking or not - first strike ueot.

What were those two doing prior to the ambush? There is one human on the ground with an outstretched bare leg, and the female says, "dont these goons have anything better to do?" Interesting...

Anyway, this sucks. It's overcosted.

If I'm on the defense I find it alot more fun to slap down a Rally the Righteous and/ or a Hold the Line.

I love the green guy in the left side of the art.

Yeah, way over-costed, evne by the day's standards. One of many things that makes Homelands Magic's worst expansion.

As far as the art goes though, there's one (male) human fighter, attacking 3 goblins (one of which is falling back as he's cut down). There are also two minotaurs (who don't really seem too friendly to the human. I would assume the goblins+minotaur are ambushing the human. I think the text idea is that the
An-Havva Constable, having just heard about another ambush, it irritated with having to deal the marauders. Yeah. Flavor consistency was not a strong suit of Homelands either.

Terrible even for its time.

If you think Homelands isn't a good set, you don't truly understand the power held within it. Why else would they make Apocalypse Chime?

Because they knew that an all Homelands deck would be so strong, there needed to be a card you could carry at the ready to destroy the power of the Homelands.

Homelands...the best set in MtG.

In an Ambush isn't it usually the attacker that strikes first?
