Gruul Smash! Each of the Ravnican guilds played differently and had its own flavor, and this creature really embodies everything Gruul. There is no subtlety, there is no guile - only big creatures, direct spells, and creatures that...make themselves bigger.

The Gruul are the most powerful, destructive, and ferocious guild in Ravnica. And their leader embodies all of it. As for the mechanic, it couln't be more Gruul; hurt the opponent, make your own creatures stronger, hurt the opponent again. I just with that he was featured more in the Guildpact novel; his name is mentioned once and thats it, he never makes an apperance or anything and that dissapionted me a little.

I recently found out that "borborygmus" means a rumbling in the intestines caused by gas. I'm fairly sure that Borborygmos' name was intentional.

borgomyious is one of the best legendary creatures ever

I don't think he's the best legendary by a long shot since his ability isn't to far removed from a simple mayael's aria. However, still a cool card. Fun to play so you can say,

"Hey look its the harry hausen cyclops from sinbad!"

Crush them!, now We Eat!

Great with creatures with persist, since it keeps removing those creatures -1/-1 counters. But needs haste badly to be good.

Whats he using for a weapon? hmm, looks like a tree... grown around a house. a HOUSE. now that, friends, is how you best CRUSH THEM.

Anyone that doesn't love saying "CRUSH THEM!" as loud as they can is... probably a blue mage.

Love the flavor text, captures the essence of the card perfectly. Whoever doesn't like playing fatties like this, is probably losing sight of what's funn in magic. Sure, I know there is a thrill in seeing your opponents face when you've countered or bounced their fatty, I've done it and felt it. But there isn't a more satisfying feeling then seeing the horror on your enemies face as a huge creature bears down on them and they realize that there isn't a chance of being alive after it hits. And in a multi-player game, seeing that your creatures are now too big to deal with is pretty sweet too.

@test_subject : it clearly says combat damage

Although I am sure that any flavour enthusiasts would probably already know this, his two commands appear on other cards:

"Crush them!"
"We eat!"

These are actually the only two flavour texts attributed to Borborygmos, too!

Anyway, this card just screams "fun". Love the pure beatdown flavour here. =)

Beef it up with double strike and extra combat phases.. Mmm, tons of counters (especially in a token deck)

I have found he works well with Stonebrow in a R/G trample deck.

in (old) greek the difference between an ending in -mus and -mos is never very strict.

His name means, "a rumbling or gurgling sound caused by the movement of gas in the intestines." Amazing

My first rare, and I still use it. Borborygmos is the shit. He so perfectly personifies R/G, being a huge beatstick with trample that powers up himself and his brethren the more he smashes. Being a really good cyclops is also a sweet bonus. Long live the Gruul Clans!

Long ago, when they printed the Theme Decks of Guildpact.
I knew that the Theme Deck was mediocre, but I still wanted to buy it just for this legendary guy.
I wish I did, now that I have enough means to ramp/tutor him up.

@mace20: Why yes he is!

And more good news for fans of this guy, he is either getting reprinted, or a whole new card when Gatecrash comes out!

@Swordfishtrombones

Tied with Thraximundar. Actually, these guys would make a totally bad-ass metal band. Thrax on the axe and Borbos on the drums. Now we just gotta find the bass and the vocals

*Epic name.
*Epic Flavor Text.
*Cool drawing.
*Too much mana cost ( Green has way better cards compared to this )
*Perfect ability to rhyme with persist or synergy with other combos.
*Still, not hexproof.

For the first three reasons, this card is getting a 4. I'd give it a 2 otherwise.

Things you can't unsee: his mana cost is ERRGG. :)

In commander, this guy only needs to swing 3 times for 21 damage, not 4 times. First hit is 6 dam, second is 7 dam, last hit is 8...comes out to 21. Just as if he had 7 power each hit. Now only if I could figure out a way to cheat him out using Red/Green. Muhahaha.

Was always a little underwhelmed by this guy. For this cost, I really would've liked haste.

What do you call this guy trying to pull 30 giant boulders?

A gruuling task.

Little late to the party I know, but am I the only one that can imagine the newer Teysa sitting in her throne, talking to one of her commanders and doing a really childish impersonation of him ala the flavor text here?
orzhov20
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Lol, his only commands in ravnica block are "crush them!" and "we eat!", however, in rtr, he says on gruul charm "Then die!"

"The scientific name for a rumbling stomach, borborygmus (pronounced /ˌbɔrbəˈrɪɡməs/; plural borborygmi) is related to the 16th-century French word borborygme, itself from Latin, ultimately from Ancient Greek βορβορυγμός (borborygmós)."

Don't ask how I found this.
