Honestly this is a great card. Despite its drawback it has instant speed removal that obliterates the target rather than simply destroys it. She can get rid of pesky "shuffles into owner's library" cards and the ever dangerous indestructible creatures. Also, since she's a beefy flyer she can block a big attacker and exile another target as well after the block. And if worst comes to worst she can eat herself to prevent killing yourself.

Expensive I guess, but now with all the untap abilities flying around, you could attach an Umbral Mantle or some other card to it and get dirty.

Amazing art, one of my favorites. Tricky to use well, particularly since you "lose" 3 life, rather than take 3 damage.. so damage prevention doesn't work. None the less, the game becomes very exciting when she comes out, even if she winds up not being used well.
Don't you just hate that... nice body, ugly face :( She is great though, if you're using her then you must have cards that grant/steal life to offset her.

If you're kind of mean, you could put her ability to work by getting her and Cinderhaze Wretch into your graveyard and then following it up with a Necrotic Ooze.
Degeneracy aside, this is a legendary creature to build around, for sure. Her drawbacks are significant, but her ability is powerful - and as Fragskull pointed out, exile effects that can be played in mono-black are few and far between.

You come up from behind and you're all like "hey baby, what's goin' (Shauku turns around) OH HOLY SHI-" and then you get removed from the game (which means eaten). Anyways, play her after Damnation or something. Very interesting card.
Put her in the graveyard and put the Ooze on play, so the Ooze will haver her ability, but DON'T will have her downback!

The drawback is awful. You don't want this in play. You want it in your yard so Necrotic Ooze can have some fun. Or on top of your library so Skill Borrower can do stuff.

It's amazing so many people drool over Visara the Dreadful, yet almost no one knows this card. It exiles the creature, and it's a vampire. How hard is it for a vampire deck to gain enough life to nullify Shauku's drawback? Not to mentions it costs only one tenth of Visara's price.
Cool ability, terrifying drawback. To use only with Necrotic Ooze, or Platinum Angel or Platinum Emperion. Also works with Lich and Phyrexian Unlife since it doesn't deal damage, it causes life loss (which those cards completely negate). You could also be really big on lifegain, I guess. Still, always a risqué move to play this big girl.

I think in most circumstances you will lose far too much life before being able to attack with her to actually make it worth it. A token generator will stop this card and possibly end the game for its controller.

Not sure where the design team was headed with this. I guess maybe you could have used her in a black/green with some mana ramp and Instill Energy, but the she is too awkward to use effectively. 7cmc? Holy crap! Badass ability, but not really enough justification for those drawbacks. Only useful in some combo where you cheat by getting the ability without paying the piper. Thanks, Necrotic Ooze. 5/5 in that deck. 0.5/5 at all other times. We'll average it out. 2.5/5 (Dare you to kiss her.)

Used to have so much fun with this card! instill energy to start killing as soon as she enters, and use pox and diabolic edicts to get rid of untargetable pests, before she kills you haha!
