Discarding two cards for two mana is fine. Gaining life this way is nice too. In the late game, you can also play it on yourself, if you are in dire need of life, and discard unwanted lands.

Wow ... I'm really surprised that I haven't seen many of these in Black White casual decks. I mean, Two mana for two cards is a great deal, but the fact that you also gain life if your opponent doesn't want to loose his/her precious non-land cards in his or her hand really pushes it over the egde.
I agree; this could be better than Blightning - especially because of it's low manacost.

4.5??? This is easily a 5/5 card. Plus Gerrard is the shit.

Normally 2 CMC for someone to discard 2 cards is good by itself, and you also gain 6 life if they discard 2 land cards. Probably better than Blightning.

This card is very close to Blightning. It's slightly weaker, but it also costs less. I'd say Blightning is slightly better, since it's easier to work black and red in a deck than black and white.

I wish WhiteBlack cards were more represented in Apocalypse. Sure, there is Death Grasp, Vindicate, Putrid Warrior and this, but there's not much else.

hymn to Tourach owns this. Still, pretty good.

so, it's Hymn to Tourach for Orzhov. plus, gain 0-6 life as a free rider. I'd be happy gaining 0 most of the time. I actually wouldn't want to gain 6. that would kind feel mean, lol. good in every deck where cheap is good (every deck that makes black mana). Madness, Hellbent, and Flashback are funny. Crucible of Worlds, Life from the Loam, and Dredge are just brutal. somebody insane accidentally gave this a 4.9 I think. r-tard. 5/5.

Feels like a Lightning Helix with a black/white hybrid effect + casting speed to match the colour. This card is great, but would you rather take Castigate or not? Maybe run both in the right deck.

two discard is really good on turn two. you can empty someone's hand by turn 3, and definitely by turn 4

This is pretty much one of my favorite cards ever, and because of its colors, it may be one of the most underplayed good cards ever. I specifically want to play this in any deck I could legally play it in.

Not as good as Hymn to Tourach but not too far off. Many of the B/W legacy decks will run 4 Hymn and 2 or so Verdicts. Great card.

Why was Apocalypse so awesome. Come to think of it, why was invasion block so awesome...

@pedrodyl: Because not only was the invasion block one of the blocks with the clearest and most epic narrative, which also made for some truly epic cards, it was also at that point the convergence of pretty much the entire lore up until that point; compiling the weatherlight, Urza, and a truckload of other legends into a single epic climax while at the same time being one of the first, if not the very first, block to really push multi-colour to the forefront while finally allowing creatures to become big and meaty, in a sense clearing the way for modern creatures in magic. In a sense, at the time it was the climax of magic while also giving players something truly unique.

It seems like Wizards have since then tried to recapture the feeling we had back then; Just look at how people cheer at the prospect of another ravnica, or how wizards after the apocalypse began focusing more on characters in their storytelling, giving us things like Nicol Bolas and all the other dudes, and all of that harkens back to Apocalypse. Not to mention, it is in a sense also the bridge between old and new magic, closing off the original storyline and giving a fresh start.

It is hard to think of other blocks that have had as huge an impact as Invasion, and that is why invasion is still one of the most awesome blocks they ever made.

Oh, right, this card. Never really got into BW, but its cost effective, the flavour text is awesome, and the art is awesome, what is not to like?!

This is, by far, the best old card I've stumbled upon in ages. Long have a searched for a card comparably in strength with Hymn to Tourach. Ladies and gentlemen, I present this gift to Orzhov discard decks in Legacy.

The simple fact that it's a consistent two for one ON RESOLUTION (as opposed effects like Cry of Contrition's, Augur of Skulls', et al is INTENSE. The closest counterpart is Wrench Mind, which comes in as a distant third in terms of power and consistency.

And then there's that lovely way it punishes players for doing the logical thing and tossing land over spells. Sure, toss those Mountains, Spike. Gimme my 6 life.

Imagine turn 1 Rack, turn two Hymn, turn three this and maybe a Blackmail. It's oppressive. Seriously, why is this not a legacy staple?

This is... barely worse than Hymn to Tourach.

my god, it's.... it's beautiful!
I wish they'd print more cards like this in current sets and fewer like Boros Charm

Nastiness. The cornerstone 2-drop of gray deck wins in legacy formats... In modern you will probably go for sculler instead

Easier to work Black and Red in a deck than Black and White? Por Favor.

White Knight and Black Knight have been BFFs since Alpha, between the two of them blanking most removal except Wrath of God.

This worse than Blightning? I would say on resolution they cause close to the same change to the game state, with this happening a full turn earlier.

You get an almost-better Hymn to Tourach, AND Vindicate, in the Same Standard rotation, the same SET, and you think Black-White needed more goodies?

Dude, Black-White WAS the goodies of Invasion. O_o The only pair that had it better was Green-Black, with both Spiritmonger and Pernicious Deed.
