You'd think something like this would have reach, but...

I'm still trying to figure out what exactly it is...

Didn't I fight these in Half Life 2?

5 for a 5/4 is sad. Not only can green do SO much better, but even black doesn't normally get the shaft this bad.

Why did the Golgari have to get the bad end of the common hybrid creatures? You'd think it would have reach. Or deathtouch. Or something!

Pros like me think this creature is very mighty indeed and the hybrid mana makes him easy to cast. I rate him 5/5.

Killer art.
Sad card.

The amount of sad I am that Golgari got the worst of the hybrid-common cycle is high.
It could have had at least Reach and I'd have been happy.

Ok in limited, bad everywhere else.

This could have had both Reach and Deathtouch flavorfully and even then it would have only seen Limited play. But now, now, it will see no play! And yet, there was so much promise--the name, the.. the name!

the only golgari hybrid that isn't gruesomely overrated, nice

The Golgari have created the Colossus. Once they tech to Carriers, there will be no hope for their enemies.

Not giving this reach was a flavor fail and a completely missed opportunity.
That would've made it the first Reacher in mono-black.

As it stands now, this card is garbage. What a shame.

Should have had Reach, or at least something given the flavor text.

I guess we're supposed to be impressed with the fact that it is modeled on a harvestman, which is a long-legged spider-like creature that technically is not a true spider, hence the "summon insect" vs. "summon spider." That's still doesn't explain the lackluster nature of the card, however.

Yes people, at this cost, this card could have been so amazing. I mean baneslayer angel costs 5, right? Even at common cards at this cost should always be awesome like sentinel spider, rght? Or maybe every set just has a few bad cards. Maybe wizards doesn't really feel like giving mono black reach. Maybe, seeing as it's a black common creature, we should just be thankful it's more powerful than zombie goliath.

This thing doesn't have reach because it spends too much time low to the ground in tunnels.

@Purplerooster:
So it's a Longlegs with bad posture?

Long legs are long... but sadly not long enough to fight flyers.

Even when placed in a non-Golgari deck, this is strictly better than Renegade Demon besides creature type. Not that it's great. It's just better than Renegade Demon.

The Golgari are preparing to flee Ravnica. The destination, Morrowind.

That... is such an adorable name.

Flavour-wise, I think I know why it has no reach, unlike spiders...it walks on four limbs and has two shorter (almost vestigial) limbs up front, akin to a tyrannosaurus rex. Can't do a heck of a whole lot, except for maybe pierce things when stepping on them.

Reimagining of this card:

Golgari Longlegs
3Black or GreenBlack or Green
Creature - Insect
Reach
This creature can only block creatures with flying.
5/4

Okay, it limits the card a bit, but at least it works flavorfully.

This guy is ok by me, both green and black can expect to see a common about that size to pad out their limited dude lists. I used one in the prerelease. I'm not even smashed up about it not having keywords.

...What ticks me off is that Towering Indrik is in the same set, the first card ever to get reach just for being tall. But really it's the indrik that gets my goat, not this little workhorse.
The art does kind of suggest something cooler than vanilla, but whatever. I still played this guy over Rakdos Shred-Freak.

Golgari Longlegs, Y U NO HAVE REACH?!

House rule: this guy always has reach.

martianshark is right: this is better than Renegade Demon (and Zombie Goliath... but, who's trying to make Goliath look good?)

The thing I keep forgetting is that this card can be played in mono-green AND mono-black. You could be playing Rakdos and have on of these. You could be playing Selesnya and have one of these. You don't need to be playin Golgari for this to work (unlike Rakdos Shredfreak, which would turn into a RedRed or a BlackBlack).

However, I'd pick Rubbleback Rhino or Tenement Crasher over this, because Vanilla only goes so far.

Yet another example of really cool art, mixed with a really cool concept, wasted on a terrible vanilla card that will barely see play even in limited.

I bet they meant to give him Reach but were like 'A 5/4 for 5? That's already insane, we can't give him any abilities!'. Then theres Woolly Thoctar.

It just needs reach really. The flavor-text even states that it can pop up and down "with startling quickness".

I think whoever designed it had a "daddy long legs" type of an arachnid in mind: webless and groundbound, wide rather than tall. Even the "fold itself into a tunnel" in the flavortext feels more "wide critter squeezing somewhere narrow" than "tall thing crouching down". Hence no reach.

I like it. Haven't found a *use* for it mind you, just like it :P. I wish vanillas got more support, stuff like petroglyphs (buffs contigent on having no abilities) and pre-errata Ascetism(abilities through a third party, so they can have flexibility without being disqualified from their buffs).

Whenever I see a green vanilla creature like this, I feel at least slightly content in that it can get a buff from Muraganda Petroglyphs that few others can.

Surprisingly good card, I've never been sad to run it. It's easy to cast and hard to kill.

This is a pretty decent power and toughness at common for mono-black.
MechaKraken
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
It's pretty good in limited and pauper formats. A 5/4 vanilla for 5 is okay for a common. It has no place in constructed or other such formats though.

Has anyone else noticed that this guy is golgari's signet?

Its flavor text makes me feel like it should have flash or something. Sadly it doesn't, which is too bad because it's a very cool looking creature but as is there really isn't a use for it. I guess it could be an ok scavenge target for Varolz?
