You know, if you're running White, you're probably just gonna be chump blocking with tokens anyways. No real need to waste card spots in your deck for a +0/+4. At least it's Instant. I'm sure SOME WHERE at SOME TIME this card will save someone's ass. Like, once. Maybe.

When I saw the art spoiled I thought it would belong to a much cooler card. Oh well, flavor remains in-tact here.

I'll give it a 3.5/5 because I used Eland Umbra in my casual aura and it has saved my skin.

Commander review: it's too narrow. It doesn't help against stealing, bounce, destruction, exile, getting shuffled away or whatever. I guess in a deck where Doran, the Siege Tower is your commander, it might be borderline playable, but else it ain't. It will be stuck on your hand for many turns, and then in rare cases rescue one or two of your creatures. 1/5

Going into my Helm's Deep deck. Immediately.

Innistrad is great for making a Helm's Deep deck btw. Not so much in the way of horsed knights, but you get plenty of these too young and too old humans that are Consummately Screwed and all these cards that are just barely good enough on defense that they WILL technically keep you alive for a turn.

Why would a make a deck that can't win, and can barely stall? Two-Headed Giant Epicness. Stall with the weak deck, and then have Player 2 slowly build up and THEN bash some faces in when he reveals he's had a 1-turn combo in his hand the whole game, and was just waiting for the game to be at it's most epic before deciding when he wanted to win.

LIKE A BOSS!

The Whole -put in a doran the siege tower deck- is actually very very frightening. Doran already bashes face, and now all of his creatures will too. (not that they weren't to begin with)

I'm not very fond of saying "I want this card to do x too, please" but I feel as though this card really Really REEEAAALLY wanted Fateful Hour. Seriously, it's like the poster child. I really dont care what the fateful hour would have been, but I want it. Maybe "prevent all combat damage this turn" or "+4/+4" or, my favorite flavorful choice, flashback w. I think the ability to flash this back (and therefore stall the monsters of the night juuuust oooooone more turn would have been a huge step in excellent design direction.

Legendary Creature - Door

Defender
Bar the Door enters the battlefield with five shut counters.
As long as Bar the Door has any shut counters, all attacking
creatures are considered blocked.
Whenever a creature attacks you, remove a shut counter
from Bar the Door. If that creature is named
Battering Ram, destroy Bar the Door
instead.
2, Remove all shut counters from Bar the Door: Bar the
Door deals 3 damage to each attacking creature. Tap those
creatures and remove them from combat.

I was somewhat disappointed when I clicked on this card and did not see something like that. Oh well, +0/+4 to all your creatures is pretty cool, especially if it makes them live through combat or Destructive Force. Or you could bar the door with increasing vengeance to survive a blasphemous act!

Charming and endearing flavour text. What was that mention of Thraben Sorin spoke in the Dark Ascension trailer?

"Thraben's wall has been breached."

Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiizzzzz.......

Like, the guy in the middle has a bandolier with wooden stakes rather than bullet clips....that is the most bad@ss attention to detail I've ever seen in magic art

All we need now is some sort of legendary creature named "Katie" and we're set.

Seems to be a definite improvement over Defensive Maneuvers.

I kinda like how you can meaningfully play it during your own combat phase, too. Like if you attack with some creatures and your opponent blocks them, willing to trade/kill them with first strikers. Suddenly you drop Bar the Door and your attackers survive but pick off the blockers. It's funny to picture an attacking force march into combat with doors strapped to their backs, who then provoke the enemy, plant the doors in the dirt, and fight from around the door frame.

Also, apparently just closing a door is enough to survive a good-sized Earthquake.

The card has a cool atmosphere, but the functionality doesn't fit the flavor at all.

If you bar the door and cluster behind it like the people seen on the artwork,
you won't be able to deal any damage to the creatures outside.
Likewise, how are those able to deal damage to you before destroying the door?
A Boggart Ram-Gang for example couldn't stomp the door in, but it will still wither away a blocker behind that door.

On top of that, it doesn't affect blocking creatures, it affects creatures you control - no matter what.
So you can use this spell during your turn, and your attackers will still get the boost.
Now tell me how barring a door before charging into battle is supposed to increase your toughness.

what they should have done is
bar the door 2 w
you gain 1 life for each attacking creature lose that much life at the begging of your next turn

Not to ignore the card itself, but the humans of Gavony sure are snazzy dressers.

@Notchism
That'd be pretty sucky. You're gaining no life advantage and losing 2W and a card. Unless you use it on your turn, in which it isn't very flavorful and would just prolong your death (presumably) until your next upkeep.

@Lord_of_the_Real
That's too overpowered, you can activate the 2 ability without any counters on it.

On a side note, we now have Tower Defense in green, which is generally better than this because 1. If you're running tokens, you probably have green somewhere and 2. if you're using Doran, well he's green too. Besides, this costs less.

Strictly better than Piety and Defensive Maneuvers, generally better than Solidarity.

...Oh, and outside Doran, Flowstone, or -X/-X situations, much worse than Safe Passage.

I think the word "strictly" is used too much. Sure this looks better than a lot of cards, but there are almost always situations where the other could be better. Something like Defensive Maneuvers, if used for yourself, would certainly be worse than this. But let's say you're in a Two-Headed Giant game and your partner has creatures and you don't, Defensive Maneuvers let's them block more effectively (especially if they're running tribal) where as Bar The Door would have no use. Or perhaps you're playing a cutthroat game, where one player (whom you're more concerned about) is attacking another player that you aren't worried about, Piety could give them what they need to survive and continue to be a distraction. So generally better? Yes. Strictly better? No.

According to Mythbusters, this should work to hold off the zombie hordes!
