It target's a player, making it a tool for political negotiations. It's also nice if you can find a way to get more counters on it.

Proliferate it in an Animar deck. I made this creature 10,000/10,000 before winning the game.

Good with Archive Trap. Makes U/G mill a lot more reliable when relying on that and Hedron Crab.

Gilder Bairn, Shapesharer, proliferate effects, graft creatures, THG games, all make this guy a multi-purpose powerhouse (Shapesharer to make opponents' creatures 0/0 if you're lucky). Even Training Grounds helps him a little.

Works well with proliferate mechanics, as well as cards like Quest for the Gemblades and the like. As others have said this can trigger Archive Trap. I enjoy that he can swing and then you can use his ability even if he's going to bite the dust.

In my experience with this card, I have noticed how insanely profitable this guy can be. In Commander, and under a general like Ghave, Guru of Spores, this card can give you full access to your land, and become a really big problem for your opponents. Getting counters back on him (especially in a commander deck with Ghave) is hardly an issue either. Kudos to Wizards for making an innocuous card like this into an absolute sleeper of a powerhouse in their pre-constructed Commander decks.

On it's own this card is fine, slam it down turn 3, maybe attack for two and get your lands, it's just an all around win. And if you have ways to put more counters on or get it back , high-five your neighbor (Sun Titan anyone?). It's double Sakura-Tribe Elder on it's own. I don't see why the edh community hasn't caught onto this card yet for just the sick powerhouse that this is. Most ramp creatures get you 1 land out of the deal, this gets you two guaranteed and it puts them into play. The only other cards that do that are awkward cards like seedguide ash or the banned primeval titan.

5/5 just so people realize how good this card is

I've thrown him into a Horde of Notions deck, and never regretted it. He helps you get to the 5 mana you need for Horde, and then Horde brings him back for more.
