I think this was the card that made me soil myself the most when perusing the Innistrad cards: A 2/2 for 2... in black. With no drawbacks. Here's hoping the next one is a zombie bear.
Blue and red, your time is coming!

Power creep? No. They haven't done a vanilla (or all upside) 2/2 for 1B; doesn't mean they haven't made anything more powerful than a 2/2 for 1B. In fact, there have always been plenty of black creatures that I would choose to run over a black Grizzly Bear, even if this card had been available at all times.
It's more like a mental thing -- they still try to believe in their baseline stats while all their Sprouting Thrinaxes and Bloodghasts have long surpassed it.

He's a black bear. Call him Blackberry.

This is a momentous set indeed. This is actually one of the cards I am most excited for. (Not to play it, but to see it).

Will probably be the highest rated 2 for 2/2 vanilla in history. Although Zombie is a hell of a strong creature type.
Obviously the black cards people play still surpass this, but black still, to this day, has a lot of X for X/X with an unnecessary drawback cards. A lot more than other colors.

So wrong it is that Black gets a vanilla 2/2 for , yet Red still doesn't have a vanilla 2/2 for . Of all the colors, the more combat oriented ones should have had these creatures first.
Well, it's finally happened. The only reason to play Scathe Zombies now is for the flavour text (which is a damn good reason, but still)...

Took them long enough to print this. Now, hopefully the awful Scathe Zombies can rest in pieces, as well as their horrid cousins (Mindless Null comes to mind... argh!)

The flavor text makes me like the Lunarch. I thought he'd be another lame guy, but no.

I didn't come up with it, but I've heard this guy referred to as "Grisly Bear." I thought that was so great I wanted to share it here.

Such a boring art (not bad quality) for a card that is going to be a staple in a lot of zombie tribal decks :(

and then Mikaeus was a zombie.

Its funny took them so long to do this, but I still made fun of a zombie player for dropping this down. Guess its not really that big of a deal wizards?

It doesn't look like anyone has said this yet, but there is some epic foreshadowing happening here.
I guess Mikaeus couldn't cut them down quick enough. He should've held onto a Molotov Coctail for the Tank. (Left 4 Dead reference)

i like how they started with an actually good flavour text (by modern standards) and then ruined it with the last word to appeal to the "XD FOPPERY SO RANDUMB" 13-year-old market

Pretty solid Card.

@Blackworm: Red is actually only the #4 creature colour, ahead of only blue, so it makes sense that black would get a bear before the more spell-oriented red.

Wow, has anyone noticed how many black cards in Innistrad are strictly better than old black cards?
But as for true vanillas, Yes, Red is Aggro. But it is NOT a creature color. The list is, with top being the best creature color, and bottom the worst,
Green
White
Black
Red
Blue
This is why black has a bear and red does not. The color wheel is more colmpex than Aggro/Control or Direct Damage/Card Draw.

So basic a card, it should have been a staple since the very beginning of Magic.

We have seen many others, Warpath Ghoul and Mindless Null were some of the other travelers on this journey.
Technically, this is power creep.
This and Diregraf Ghoul FTW.

Elvish Visionary: Tell me about it.
Tidal Visionary: Please, could you two be quiet for a second? I'm busy with a Grizzly Bear here...

There's this (Scathe Zombies),
Altar's Reap (Skulltap),
and Ghoulcaller's Chant (Raise Dead).
