"can you identify killer trees?" my friends can after i made the mistake of playing a lumberknot in an enchantment deck in a multiplayer game. quote-"come on guys, its only a 20/20 with 3 sets of umbra armour, vigilance, lifelink and first strike" to be fair, it was my only creature, and all my opponents had flying creatures that i couldnt block.

It's a Grizzly Bears, except that if you play him late in the game, you can always give that +1/+1 boost to the huge beater you cast last turn. Flexibility is a good thing! Also... a slightly different Graft?

Odd tech against undying creatures?
Probably not, but still, it's a decent creature.

a great common... for 2, it can be a vanilla 2/2, or it can give you an option. in either case, more board presence is never bad. Thumbs up :-)

Ironshell beetle has found himself a tribe! I still wish I had a more compelling reason to run him though....

I actually like this card. Not only is it a 2/2 for 1G, which is fairly decent by itself, it can also boost another creature if desired. I know it's not that flashy, but there is a certain beauty in its deceptive simplicity.

This card was the unsung hero of my pre-release night for me. I combo-ed him with Cathars' Crusade, Cloudshift, and Emancipation Angel to get me a trio of 9/9's. This card rocks.

Not super impressive.
Compare with the 1G eldrazi card that gives you a 2/2 and a 0/1 eldrazi token.

This guy was a staple in my pre-release deck. He's not flashy and a lot of people will skip over him. But he can impact the game either early or late. Really, a card doesn't have to be some Eldrazi legendary to be useful.

If you put the counter on himself, you suddenly discover that he is a Human Scout Bear.

Strictly better than Grizzly Bear.

Not actually strictly better than a bear - you can respond to the ETB and kill it with a 1 damage spell before it buffs itself.
This would have been dominant in INN limited - it's only pretty good in AVR.
= 1/1 + 1/1 + badass hat + belongs to the human tribe? Why wouldn't I play this?

Nice try grizzly bear!!! Oh, you say your not grizzly bear? Whats your other option, a sea eagle that trades flying for sorcery speed battlegrowth on an ally? Nice try grizzly bear!!!

Remember that you can use him to build something up over time with his ETB effect, with something like Roaring Primadox. Also Mikaeus, the Lunarch can turn that +1/+1 counter into a boost for your whole army. This is underrated in my opinion. Hamlet Captain makes this sad though.
Yeah it's better than a bear, but I still don't like it. Victim of power creep I guess, it would have been fair at a 1/2 (though probably not higher since it is splashable).
Also note that you can kill this with something like hornet sting before Is ability resolves (so possibly slightly worse than bears in an edge case).
