A 2/1 for 1U is boring. A 2/1 with first strike for WU isn't so bad at all. A 2/1 with first strike AND lifelink for WU is pretty darn good. A very playable creature and it might make the white splash in merfolk just a bit more viable.

When i saw this card, i was like wow. Finally i can form a standard merfolk deck ever since my last standard deck that contains Roo***er Thief.

Aggroing kird ape/wild nacatl/loam lion, merfolk?! It's so anti blue yet so perfect for blue.. maybe this is the new direction their taking with that color. Blue really needs this since aggro gets nuts really fast these days. A blue/black deck running these and vampire nighthawk has some serious anti aggro, especially paired with a basilisk collar.

Soooo good! I love this cycle, no more enemy colors in draft for me!

Easily the most playable of the Kird Ape cycle, and that's saying something because it's quite a good cycle.

Great card, I use this and Deft Duelist as early drops in my casual W/U control deck.

I just wanna point out it isnt UW for its ability, you can play the plains any time to get the bonus, such as t3 after they have declared blockers and you harrow a plains, or tap your walking atlas mid combat so that trade now becomes a chump and they take a double take

My favorite card, seriously considering sliding it into my UB just so I can make it unblockable. And such a nice excuse to put in Wall of Denials too for the white. Oh sweet victory~

Really enjoyed seing this guy hit the table next to my Wall of Denial. One of the best early creatures around for W/B; no brainer.
I'd say it is a toss up between them and the Deft Duelist, but the Merfolk are probably a bit better because of the lifegain. If someone is running heavy removal, you may miss the shroud though.

First turn: Island and possibly some 1-mana creature.
Next turn: Plains and this.
Beautiful.

A great way to make an off-color creature without the risk of breaking the game. How do we make a mono0Blue ass-kicking weenie two drop with two keyword abilities? Make sure you have to play White too!
This guy is theoretically better among Soldiers than among Merfolk; if you splash white your land base won't have a lot of Plains, so you should instead start white and splash blue.
But presently in Standard there isn't much Soldier support, and in Extended he's outmatched by better two-drop Soldiers.
If I'd put him anywhere, it'd be in an Esper Fish list in Standard. Such a deck does not exist in any competitive form.

Good in a W/U soldier deck. Blue soldiers are always helpful.

This is basically a 2/1 with first strike and lifelink for ... Simply awesome!

For a while everybody was trying this guy in Legacy Merfolk, since we were splashing white for Path to Exile anyway, and all the +1/+1s from Lord of Atlantis and friends seemed promising. As awesome as a 4/3 first strike lifelink might sound, I was never actually happy to draw this, and it never appeared in a winning tournament list.
It's still one of my favorite casual Merfolk. The whole Lorwyn block was awesome for casual; combo-Merfolk is fun and cheap to put together.

this is actually way better than Knight of Meadowgrain because of its cost and because the 1 more toughness 95% of the time doesnt matter since it has first strike

If you want to continue on curve with the blue/white lifelink theme.
T2: This
T3: Arctic Aven T?: Drogskol Reaver if you are feeling froggy.

Seems like an applicable card, although I personally don't have any good W/U decks to put this into.
Perhaps I should build a soldier (or merfolk) deck around this.

This sounds familiar, except that, minus a color, it gains one toughness.
