4-of in my UW planeswalker deck. With Everflowing chalice and contagion clasp for good measure

Such a great pickup in limited and useful in the right constructed decks as well. At the very VERY worst, it's cycling: 2U. Most of the time it's that and some extra poison, -1/-1, loyalty, charge, or whatever counters. Approved.

I love the flavour text.

My buddy thinks this is the "sleeper" card of the set. For those who don't know, that means the bomb yet to be discovered.

This card demands that you proliferate. Proliferate!

It's just little more than nothing on its own. But ain't this great design? Damn, i can't force myself to rate this jewel below 5, even if it won't see constructed.

Your "Buddy" may know what he's talking about. If you can Proliferate Level up Counters that is, and if you can I am so adding 4 to my UW leveler deck.

You know, when Memnarch was around, the story says that his descent into madness started with a strange oil...

I'm sure we will see abilities to counter/compliment the effects of infect and proliferate later on in the set. I can see a white/green ability that can remove counters from creatures or players. I can also see a blue/black/red ability that can transfer counters from one player or permanent to another.

This card puts 2 counters on Archmage Ascension... Deck building time! mono blue proliferate deck with Archmage Ascension and Quest for Ula's Temple!

Only problem I have with it, is it's the ONLY single-use proliferate card. Kinda sick how much better this is than Clockspinning though; paying the extra 1 for buyback versus just a cantrip isn't bad, but the amount of Clockspinnings you need to play just to break even in insane. Too funny not to run both of in EDH counter-decks though.

I'm so getting a Proliferate deck going. This is great. 5/5

This card doesn't necessarily put two counters on Archmage Ascension. To be specific, unless there's already a counter there to proliferate, steady progress will only put one.

An instant speed draw that accelerates your planewalkers, gives your opponents a poison counter, charges your artifacts, and other stuff all for 3cmc. Who didn't give this a five?

Not a bad card, although I would rather use Throne of Geth. In any situation it can be used as a cheaper, colorless version of this card (exluding the draw a card). In some other situations it can be kept on the field to sacrifice artifact creatures. Like I said, on its own, it's a solid card. 3.5/5

Now that's a cantrip. So ridiculous with Pyromancer Ascension.

You'd think a Vedalken would be a little more investigative.

The fights (aspiring) competitive players have about this card are astonishing. I'll argue for it until I drop dead but a large number of players don't seem to get that, if you build your deck right, proliferating once is huge. Yes, Contagion Clasp is "better" in many ways, but it costs SIX MANA before you've proliferated once. This does it for three and it's a free card.

Pyromancer Ascension
Ratchet Bomb
Titan Forge
Everflowing Chalice
Lux Cannon
Golem Foundry

All of these are cards where every single counter matters greatly. Hell, Titan Forge counters cost 3 by default, and at a limit of one per turn at that. Would you rather pay two, wait a turn, then pay four for a counter (with the chance for more later, but still at four mana apiece) or pay three for a counter this turn? The "desperate ploy" is an underrated niche. This card can win you a close game.

Tezzeret's Gambit from New Phyrexia is better. Doesn't mean that Steady Progress isn't a good card. It's awesome.

This is a nasty surprise for any opponent who ignores that Lux Cannon with two counters on your side of the field.

Also, it's cheap, instant-speed proliferation. That alone gives it a niche role in certain control decks.

This is kinda funny. Right now, that poor guy is being eaten by a Phyrexain/ being turned into a Phyrexain by that same oil xD

No wonder the rich (positive counters) are getting richer and the poor (negative counters) poorer.

Lovely 1-1 lesson in the ruling section:
Since "any number" includes zero, you don't have to choose any permanents at all, and you don't have to choose any players at all.

And what with the "Please proliferate" thing?
