Definetly a cool idea ,though 7/1 without trample ain't so good.

Vigilance? how often is it going to survive attacking?

You wouldn't attack into a full board. Wait for a clearing, hit for seven, and then sit back on it. It's not great, but it's more interesting.

This +Goblin Tunneler won me at least 3 prerelease games.

@lorendorky: It'd be a 7/1 when it swings. handy for defending when Doran is out, but bad when swinging. Why would you run this in the same deck as Doran, anyhow?

@lorendorky
It's very simple, really. Doran, the Siege Tower doesn't switch power and toughness, it simply causes creatures to a.ssign combat damage based on toughness instead of power. Therefore, if Doran is out and you attack with Fireboar, he will still switch to a 7/1 but only a.ssign 1 combat damage due to Doran's ability.

Underrated Card, Combine With Either Goblin Tunneller, Dwarven Warrior or Dwarven Nomad to make unblockable. Then enchant with Heroes Resolve and or Eland Umbra to give the Boar a nice offensive boost. Play with Deathless Angel to stop most spot removal. 4/5

Needed to cost one, or optimally two, less to be impressive.

Decent enough, but needs support. 3/3 for not being able to stand on it's own four hooves.

definitely underrated....like most people have been saying, try Goblin Tunneler. Also, with red's lack of defense, this guy can make up for it as a strong blocker. And seeing as Red is for burning and ridding the board of opposing creatures, so he has room to attack. And yes...it would be nice to see this at a lower cost or with Vigilance...

18scsc, your response to everything is rancor, and it's usually not the best or even a good salution.

Add Totem Armor for flavor. Apply liberally to opponent.

maybe the person lorendorky usually plays against really likes Doran and uses it alot...

Almost seems too obvious but... use it as a blocker/attacker in valakut, the molten pinnacle decks

@achilleselbow
not to be a jerk but there is so much wrong with that. Distortion strike is a sorcery so you cannot declare attackers first without giving it flash with something like leyline of Anticipation. Even if you were able to hit it with it post attackers since his power and toughness are switched, anything that would boost up his power would instead boost his toughness until end of turn.

Distortion Strike ftw. Ideally you'd cast it right after declaring attack so that he'd actually get the power boost, though you still wouldn't get it the second time around (since you'd have to recast it during your upkeep).
Edit: whoops, forgot it was a sorcery. But you're wrong on the second part - check the rulings. His P/T only get switched when the ability triggers - afterwards, things that affect them work as normal.
Now here's an interesting situation - let's say you have an Eland Umbra on it, making him a 1/11, and attack, making him 11/1, and then the Umbra is bounced or destroyed. By my reckoning, nothing actually happens and he stays 11/1 until the end of that turn.
Also, would attacking with him trigger Raid Bombardment? I believe it would, since for things that trigger at the same time, you get to choose the order in which they go on the stack, correct?

One time I cast Clinging Darkness on this guy when my opponent attacked. But since his toughness became zero as soon as he attacked, he died. Good times.

@ashilleselbow: Note that with Eland Aura he would actually be a 1/11 defender and 7/5 attacker.

Best use is probably to make him unblockable or take out all the defenders before attacking. However, first strike/double strike equips are useful too (Claws of Valakut could work, but hate putting an enchant like that on something with 1 life.

Slagwurm Armor. Have fun with your 13/1 guys.

Oh the noobs and the Umbras!!

6/15/2010 Effects that switch a creature's power and toughness are applied after every other effect that modifies that creature's power and toughness, no matter when they started to take effect. For example, if Valakut Fireboar's power and toughness are switched, then it gets +2/+0 until end of turn, it will be 7/3 that turn.

Taken right from the rulings, Distortion Strike would make him 2/7 before attack and 7/2 once he attacks, Eland Umbra makes it a 1/11 defender or 11/1 attacker, not 7/5.

Anyway, if you have a Goblin Tunneler down drop this guy, then next turn enchant him with an Umbra or two (after making him unblockable if they raise power too much) you can swing for up to 15.

Nope still not worth it.

If there was a similar card that had haste or was weaker and cost less, I might be more tempted.

The Goblin Tunneler combo is pretty awesome, though.

Combos with Fling. Seriously, do people think R&D / WOTC design / print cards like this for no reason?

I know this should really go without saying, but don't try to clear the board of potential chump-blockers by casting Pyroclasm right before attacking. It won't end well for you.

Also, check out its creature type: Elemental Boar. Elemental. Motherf***ing. Boar.

Super Fortress Cyclops. Vulnerable when attacking, wall-like when blocking.
