Scary flying snake! I'd prefer it if it had first strike, perhaps even in place of flying. As it is now it's highly cost-effective, especially since it's off-color removal.

Interesting card. First strike would have made it way to powerful however; it could be capable of taking out any one creature without first or double strike. Still a really good card, although more power or toughness would have been nice.

Awesome card. Flash/Deathtouch makes it a huge pain for your opponent.

He's like a poison arrow.

Great card for limited play. Love the whole "Flash, Deathtouch" combo goin on.

Of course his only real use is blocking. I could never see myself playing him on my main phase.

and the "First Strike" idea everyone keeps throwing out would make him quite overpowered. Even if he had it instead of Flying, he would still be extremely OP, and his mana cost would probably have to go up

It's also good since it can go around shroud

I wish it was 1WG instead, I would love to run 2ish in my Naya deck. Always fun in my bant deck though.

Ok so I'm new to the whole magic scene, so what exactly does flash do?

Flash means you can play it any time you could play an instant.

for example, if they attack, you can play it and then block with it.

This card is really sick. Definitely a favorite for flying defense in my g/b deck.

I figure this card to be an awesome card although it is a three drop it can be play for flash and block a flying creature with deathtouch. Baneslayer swing for 5/5 hahaha winged coatl block I win in life.

Trades with anything without first strike or double strike just like Deadly Recluse, but can also be used as surprise removal.

The flash part of this card is amazing, sure there are other cards with death touch, but it doubles as an instant removal from your hand against any attacking creature. Play with electropotence to get instant removal when it enters play. Make it indestructible and you have a blocker that kills every turn.

sigh, reminds me of the days Voracious Cobra dominated everything and ate any other creature for breakfast. this doesn't quite have the same punch as the cobra, but it's way more balanced and and flash lets it work as removal instead of just locking down the board until your opponent drew a kill or burn spell.
You gotta love the deathtouch snakes

not so fast. Baneslayer has first strike.

@Jacksjokeshop I'm glad it isn't white. It's a solution to Malakir Bloodwitch and other pro-white creatures in my Knight of New Alara deck.

destroy target attacking creature
nice

"Destroy any one attacking creature."

In two colors that can't usually do that (though they're both mutual allies to the king of attacker destruction.)

I love it when they do things like this. The effect is off-color, but the way it's accomplished is not. Flying and flash are very blue, while deathtouch is not uncommon in green. Combine them, and you've got creature removal!

Best way to take care of Emrakul, IMHO.

It's Vampire Nighthawk Lite.

This won't take care of Emrakul, he has protection from colored spells so he can't be blocked and no damage can be assigned to him...

Divine_exodus, I am afraid you are wrong. You see, creatures are not "spells" unless they are on the stack. As soon as this card hits play, it can interact with Emrakul. That's why Oblivion Ring works: its exile clause is an ability that does not trigger until it is already in play and thus a permanent instead of a spell.

A snake with flying? Count me in!
Great card, if I get this I may just have to build a simic deck!

I don't even count him as a 'creature' most of the time, since his main use is to kill something exceptionally pesky that's attacking me. However, the fact that he IS a creature and not just a removal spell, is not to be forgotten. Love to have options and multipurpose cards are great.

Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome. And the eyes look ever so slightly cartoon mad.
If you're running Bant colours, Hyena Umbra/autocard makes this the pain of the century.

I love the flavor and power of this guy. I especially love the idea of one lowly snake taking out Nicol Bolas (the Legendary Creature, not the 'walker card), Emakrul, or someone like that.

Isn't that mana cost just a visual treat? UG and UR look so good next to each other.

This is a very good creature removal spell for blue/green decks. Both colors have a lack of direct creature removal, and this flash, flying, deathtouch snake is a great addition, and it is a common. I give it four stars.

Excellent card, very playable. It's basically a kill spell -- and a good one at that -- in the two colors that almost never get kill spells. 4.5/5.

Ambush Viper....WITH WINGS!!!
Arachnos
★★☆☆☆ (2.0/5.0) (2 votes)
So this thing is basically Quetzalcoatl?

Thought it was overcosted at first until I realised what its power combination does. It's not something you cast and use to attack, it's something that jumps out like a jack in a box during your opponent's turn and kills his super creature of eternal doom. Flying ensures that it can take out almost anything out there, barring unblockable/shadow.

I like Ambush Viper better. Not for the cheaper removal, but because of the surprise swing with Rancor.

It kills Emrakul, The Aeons torn. You still lose a lot of permanents but at least you have a slight chance.

This might look crappy, but when it stops your 12/12 sublime archangel dead in her tracks youll understand its power. One of my boys runs this to great effect in his talrand-time warp deck. Works best in any instant heavy deck, so they cant play around expecting it when u have 3 open

Also i lol'd at the idea of this takin out emrakul. Very lucky if you can manage such a thing

This is the reason why Nissa Revane is afraid of snakes. The way it's poised combined with flash and deathtouch strikes me (pun unintended) as rather humorous, like it's this petty little assassin ready to take an attacking creature down at a moment's notice.

Player 1: Here's my Shivan Dragon swinging at you for 10!

Player 2: I cast Winged Coatl and assign it to block your Shivan Dragon.

Player 2: F**K!
